its like being a bieber fan in a Prodigy gig....
if the tunes you like are prog and fullon...then ofcourse you will not get or enjoy the gil experience !
the man has been doing the same thing(djing for the people) since half of us were still listening to the smurfs song..
o yeahhh...and he wasnt making a single cent in the older days...
maybe now he's getting a bit greedy from what i read.but man...everyone needs to make some dollars..him not sharing the stage doesnt sit with me well ..i have to admit..

goa gil has great vibes , that resonates in his sets. also the fact that he makes his console a divine alter or a holy shrine really excites the living laser beams out of me. sound is just one part of the experience..if you reach early see the whole process where he does the little prayer etc..you would lay less importance on the material elements of his dj sets and focus on the ethnic elements that he practices which set the tone for the party.

Goa Gil is not the one single-handed responsible for the whole Goa scene's birth. That is utterly nonsense and only spoken by people who are blind worshipers (Cult?).
I don't care if people think he is God on a train-wreck track.
To me he is yet another materialistic pseudo hippie who can't mix two tracks together without messing up things.
Sorry for the harsh words but as a DJ the least you can do is to get your mixing skills right and to be more modest. His bull*** about not wanting to share the stage with other DJs is to me a sign of arrogance and extensive narcissism which is far from the spirit of this scene.
I have met the old man on more occasion and the first thing that stuck me was that he never stopped talking about himself.

theres no worship its just watching a ritual..like watching the beheading of a goat during a religious cermony..get me a dj who beheads a live goat before he or she starts to play their set and at the end of the set serves shawerma to all the hungry dancers...i will follow his cult

There is indeed worshiping going on. But usually a worshiper does not see his own misfortune

thats the worshipers problem
everyone loves to be worshiped
"we are all gods but we have forgotten-plato"
those who remember and know how to use it to their advantage get worshiped When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive |

Saw him one time as he was the opening act at fullmoonfestival germany 2003 he was playing for the first 18 hours, must say Iīll always keep it as an extraordinary memory cause it was my first acidexperience aswell, canīt imagine a better one.
Back then there was a really nice freaky crowd at the festival, was really nice at midnight it just started with a beat no show no fireworks and didnīt stop for 18 hours, very nice tranceexpierience was like dancing without need of nothing for 2-3 hours then he played 3-4 tracks that kicked you out of trance so you could have a small break roll yourself somekind of cigarettes, go get some drinks and stuff before he started the next dancing round for 2-3 hours.
Never experienced someone affecting the crowd with the music he plays so much again, the next one I heard who was quite near was Psykovsky playing an I donīt really know how long set (more than 4 hours for sure) in switzerland last oktober.
I think thatīs the point why he wants to play so long sets and then I can understand why he plays alone. After 18 or 24 hours of psychedelic music which claims your mind and body by an nice way everything is said and done.
Possible heīs egocentric, donīt know him, donīt really care, to be honest as an totaly selfless Dj you wonīt get any bookings wonīt play any gigs no one would even know your name.
As long as the people like what heīs playing itīs fine with me.
I do preefer partys with less djīs or liveacts that have some time to do a propper set no 1,5h slots where thereīs no time to make somekind of a story just choose one style and concentrate on beatmatching and turning the eqīs , then itīs the next artistīs turn to show you his choosen style.
For me as a partyvisitor who would like to dance trance and have some fun a night long itīs not really satisfying.
This year Iīll try to catch him if heīll play in europe, like rolling stones heīs not getting younger, you never know which will be the last gig.
I donīt really mind the mixing skills if the choice of tracks that are used in the set fits to create a nice atmosphere as long as the set lasts I suppose he doesnīt also otherwise he should be better in this, at least he had enough practice in the meanwhile.

In my experience with the Gil Ritual. I feel that he plays some of the best underground music in the world these days and there is no doubting that.
He plays for so long. That is really incredible.
His mixing is a little shameless at times but i guess that shows us that he is still human
For me his sets are like going to a psych. Only difference is you dance your problems away and don't waste your breath talking.

I dont get you people. How can anyone get into a real state of trance (without drugs) from a dj that mess up the mixing. Every time he change a tune he train-wreck the tunes and that IMO would make it impossible for me to reach a state of trance. And I have been there done that for years so I do know what I am talking about.
And of course it all comes down to taste but I cant stop laughing at his die hard fans who think Gil single-handed created the Goa trance scene (which he abandoned years ago with his dark hard core).
I agree with the point of less DJ's (and no live-acts in a regular party thank you) but the music he play these days we can never agree on.
When it come to Dj'ing long sets I've also been there and done that many times during the 90's. There is nothing special about Gil's marathon session. The problem are THE PROMOTERS that think more dj's and less hours is the key to money in the Bank.

@ daark
Ask anyone that's been to one of his sessions (question is if they will admit it) or search youtube.
I've seen him on two occasions and it was like going to the Dentist. Nerve wrecking!
Yes it was years ago but as far as I am told he never changed the way he mix.
