The Vantara Vichtra Recs party was very well done. We all know how tough it is to pull off a party today and in these times they managed to pull off a good party. Decor was fantastic, good attendance and on till the wee hrs. Winner or should i say Vinner Vantara Vichtra 
I enjoyed all the sets that i was there for. Great Party and wishing them all the best for the future gigs and releases.

You would defn get a lot of parties during the time you planning of visiting. However it is a bit expensive during that time. You will be able to see a lot of people in Goa during that time of the year.
If you stay around Anjuna or Vagator you would defn get to know where the parties would be happening in Goa. Just be careful of wannabes as well as there are 2 many of them.
Mushrooms make you do crazy stuff. Look at Mario he jumps on animal heads and fights with dragons. |

goa is mad expensive during the new years time, after that the prices come down.
staying in anjuna is a good idea because you will meet many fellow psytrancers there. however I felt when I was there last (jan 2011) that there is too much interference with the parties from authorities in the anjuna area (ie they want bribes from the orgz to let the parties go on). Many places will claim that they are allowed to have the music go all nite in this area but you will find that a lot of them are told to shut down after a certain time despite what they say. However this could be different after the new years time.
The best parties I felt were on the Morjim, Ashwem side. A little far from Anjuna, but the parties went on all night and pretty fgood crowd there too.
All in all just land up Anjuna and figure it out from there. You will meet many ppl you can get info from and find the right parties to go to. No matter what people say Goa is still Goa and its a fucking killer place.

Sweet! Thanks.. that's what I was planning on doing. I think I'm now definitely going to go there.. but I was worried about finding other like-minded people - I knew about Vagator and Anjuna but didn't know how super-commercial it's gotten or if there's parties still often there because of the authorities situation - plus it's been a long time of having parties in the same place - so it's quite obvious of the effects on an area. As long as I can hit up at least 1 good vibing, outdoor, non-commercial / etarded, old-school styled (party, not music), renegade (legal or illegal ;-)) parties I'll be happy. Like the old Pine Barrens parties in NJ, USA - if anyone's ever been there hehe.
When you go.. do you stay at a hostel / hotel? rent an appt. for a month or two (this option looks pricey for tourists)? I don't have any friends there so I would just be traveling blind and hoping for the best. Couchsurfing.org? I know this works but I don't know about staying with someone for a month or two.. |

there are many options for stay. a lot of the commercial tourists will stay in expensive places like hotels. For the psy travellers there are many options such as shacks and guesthouses. There's a lot of cheap guesthouses in Anjuna. Ive heard that Chapora (near Anjuna) has very cheap options for stay as well. The accommodations wont be much, but all you need is a decent bed, toilet and shower. I always stay in places like this. Just get there and look around a little bit and you'll find the perfect place . Also I highly recommend renting a scooter when you get there. This is essential for Goa so you can travel easily from beach to beach, party to party lol. You should try and get there like 3, 4 weeks after new years if possible so the prices of everything will come down and there will be less commercial crowd, more full power parties
There are scenes all over India, but the two established scenes are Goa and the Himalayas. From about Nov to March Goa is in season and the scene is there, then it shifts to the Himalayas when Goa is off season.

Right said AumShantiAum...GOA has a lot of places to stay. However, if u have north GOA in mind, Anjuna is the place to stay. Lots of like minded ppl and shacks and guest houses but prices of these lil guest houses and shacks will shoot up during Christmas and New Year and will continue to do so until the last week of Jan. After that GOA is in its PEAK  until about the 1st week of April.
You might also want to venture down south and carry on to 'Gokarna':):)
INDIA is huge and the scene is not confined to GOA alone. Once in GOA, keep your eyes and ears open for all the buzz.
Every places has its own charm. There are lots of parties and like minded people everywhere in INDIA.

Yes Gokarna is brilliant! love that place. There are three places where a lot of the backpacking crowd will go. This is Goa, Gokarna, Hampi. Its very easy to get to these places via bus and they each have their own charm. You'll prob only find the parties in Goa tho, things are much quieter in Gokarna, Hampi. If you can coordinate being in Gokarna for Shivarathri (Feb 20) you should try and do it. Its a really interesting experience, its a huge celebration of Shiva and there is a very important Shiva temple in Gokarna. I heard it gets pretty mad if you go to Gokarna make sure you stay on one of the beaches, not the main town. bOM!

I've dj'ed for a couple of parties out in the Pine Barrens 03 and 04 ... they were awesome ... we had pitched our tent and made tea and cooked breakfast for ourselves and whoever else cared to join us. i still have pics from there and also the memories won't fade away.
