Probably so, but I would rather read the redundant technical threads posted by people who don't understand the search function, than read the redundant, off-handed personality and creativity advice people often give out, when it wasn't even requested. I guess it's a lesser of two evils scenario, the former at least has a chance of producing new and useful information, whereas the latter just consists of condescending and jaded "veterans" pretending that pop music (which trance is) has no structure worth noting or studying.

It's the poppification of trance music that, personally, winds me up. Dumbing down/lowest common denominator, and all that. Lost cause, I know, but I still believe in the power of this music and have to act according to my conscience. If I may assume that you're referring to me when you say 'veteran' (and I'm sure you'll let me know if, in my self-absorption, I've got that wrong): I may have my jaded moments - who wouldn't after 12 years - but I try hard not to condescend to know better than anyone else. I've lost count of the number of times I've been corrected on something (more than once by yourself, I'm sure) or have put my hand up to admit my mistakes.

i have one question, how is anyone supposed to give ideas when you dont even get to hear the bass and kick play in a normal way?
instead of trying to give examples to this dude, some people concentrate on bitching with other people that just say, "be yourself" like it is something to get upset about...
help the dude instead of bitching? good idea, yes, no?

to say "be yourself"
maybe "try yourself" is a better answer 
i know i ask alot of questions that i instead just should try my self and experiment with... and maybe after i done that i could ask... like in the "mother of all connections" thread i could instead try different connections and see what works... though im more looking for a answer about routings of different signals and problems that can occur when you do different connections...

Even if GMS will ask me one day in what bass you use i will never tell them , Be sure of that . Each 1 have to develop and improve his own tunes and sound and not being affected & influenced by others . Yes , Its difficult on this planet but at the same time more unique and curiouse of being yourself , For sure you will find inside of you an interesting worlds & palces to "fish" and "hunt" your deep interior touch and feeling - Your own style of yourself . Thats is the point , First try and not jump like that 'GMS Bass' (And OK .. if u will know , How its can help you ? What it will give you ? , It will makes you a better producer/Or maybe better mimic and imitator ) .
Bass .. ? What is the problem here ? , Cant understand that . |

i've given my patches and everything else to loads of producers and i dont think that's evil.
its a way of colaboration.
im sure that by seeing how i've done something, they'll include that knowledge in their own work, not by copying it but by evolving it into a greater thing

Hah there's nothing like self-centered competitive individualism that warms my heart. Everyone here must understand Mr. Cartel's perspective, as he no doubt identifies his music through the choice of sounds and production tricks he painstakingly twiddled and tweaked just right. God forbid one would focus on musical content, structure and flow rather than cheap sounds and cheap tricks.

well , We both know the tauPro . We both know the Edirol 'Super Quartet' , And we both know the CronoX3 . We both know the iZotop Trash , We both know the Rbass and all the blue one's . We both know the all dynamics collection and also the eq machines . Thats fine . Now you know 35% from how i build my bass , But can you make it 100% the same ? . Dont think so (Difficult calculation imo) And all this is out of real need , For what .. ? , Cant u just be yourself ? All those ppls trying being others got Imo an very bad Start Point (And attitude - Even for them selfs , When they dont belive inside of them with they owns so they need to know how things go's in others , I say .. Enjoy the music , Thats all , Queations not need in here , Ask questions when you realy wants to learn and know and on your own tunes , Music and sounds ) .

I think there's a difference between wanting to know how someone did something, and asking someone to do something for you and give it to you.
For instance a discussion on basslines or even a specific bassline, and how it might be created, is different from asking 'Someone give me a patch for GMS bass, because I'm a lazy peice of shit.'
I've asked how to make a sound on here before, and I don't feel ashamed at all. I tried to do it myself for a while, I asked for help here, and succeeded thanks to you guys. |
