Yo, how about those "bbbbbbbb" sounds that I hear so often in DarkPsy tracks. it sounds so cool, yet i haven't been able to achieve it in ableton. why is that?
is it a way of patterns?
or is it an effect applied to the track?
just plain old audio track samples? |

I think, without hearing an example, what you're describing is actually manipulated samples of either the kick drum or the whole track, through some sort of stutter/repeat effect. Or, god forbid, a manual edit acheiving the same effect.
In Ableton you might try making a drum rack with a few of your favorite kick drums, and make some fast repeating patterns in a Midi clip. Then, add some fx like beat repeat or buffer override in that channel, experiment, and record in another audio channel. Cut up the results and keep the bits you like best. Chuck those bits into a drum rack, along with your kicks. Use those for your track. |

Oh, and add a hipass filter with a pretty high frequency setting, a delay and some reverb, with some lfo modulation on the frequency of the filter, to the bufferoverride experimental channel and you'll get some really cool scratchy farty fx sounds. |

+1 for beatrepeat. If you don't have Ableton then Audio Damage make a plug called replicant that will also produce stuttering fx.

Ah i see, i'll have to try some of those ideas. I've tried using beat repeat for a bit, fiddling around with it and I didn't really get the result i wanted and it sounded really random. as for buffer override, i'll have to check that out.
thanks! |

sorry for foolin around, dont mind mate.
just want to give you a hint that this is pretty hard to say without an example..... it´s like: do you know how one achieves that melody like piuuuhhhhhhdiedldüüüühdäädääätzmiedlüüü
so forget about golden rays, it´s just the isratrance mascot since some while.
so, now as i know about the issue i would recommend to stutter manually, takes some while, but leads to better results at the end imo. just stutter the part, repeat it manually, edit the size and play around with each part, transpose, add fx, maybe work on different channels/tracks, reverse, do whatever comes to your mind to get the random feeling. if you dont like random just dont get that weired.
if you´re on ableton you could try follow action, prepare some clips and say them to play randomly.
many ways to rome, example would be some more easy to solve the problem
cheers

ah, pardon me, for some reason i thought the best way to interpret the sound would be as a "high-tech digital raspberry".
stutter didn't cross my mind at all, lol. i'll have to check out the enigma plugin. |
