hey guys,
i was reading alot of how you guys like to NOT use delay on snares and/or percussion to give it the "TAT para tat" cuz its more controllable. I have to very well agree with you guys on that but my question is as a newbie at this ghost note business....
how is it done in ableton live for example....or let me rephrase...whats the best way to do it in ableton live or the most effective way....
thanks guys           saii.rave.ca

Velocity or filter modulation.... I tend to use a low enough velocity where you can still hear the inflection of the note, but it doesn't really hit all that hard. Also, I'd recommend looking at some drum and bass forums, that's where I learned about ghost notes.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

"Ghost notes" are just quiet drum hits. The skeleton of the groove is formed by the louder more obvious drum hits. Ghost notes flesh and fill out the groove. Use them!

use a sampler or drum synth. root velocity to amp, cutoff or whatever. just play with veloctiy of midi notes.
there are other ways but this is very easy imo.

You can hear 'ghost notes'.

Think of someone playing a rhythm on a hand drum. There are the obvious hits that are loud and form the basis of the rhythm being played. But in between the main hits you'll often hear the drummer softly tapping the drum - those are ghost notes.

The easiest way to do this depends on how you are doing your percussion. I use Battery, which automatically sets velocity to modulate volume. So to make 'ghost notes' AKA 'quiet notes' all I do is reduce the velocity for the hit.

Make sense?
