ghost kick & sidechain etc

So far I never worked with ghost kick sidechain.
I want to do one on audio.
I understand as I have to copy the bassline channel ,where my sidechain compressor on is, to a new track - make this one track silent and remove the compressor from the original bassline track - just keep it on the new duplicated silent bassline channel.
Is it right or do I have to keep both compressors?
Than by editing my duplicated bassline channel I want the part to be on this track which has no bassline changes - from start to end - ,I realized that the file does not come to the exactly zero ,when duplicated the wanted bars...
Either it is behind or slightly before the start of a new bar .
How and where to change this option in the preferences?

Thank you Orgy it helped even though this is the quadro way, which I never did but I worked with sidechain group once.
The movie is really good and helped to have a better idea.
As last point to sidechain I'm not sure if I have to reactivate the comp if it is not on group but on bass itself ,but I think it must be like this when looking on the film.

duplicate kick track silence it. Than put SC comp on the quadro group track and send your basstrack to that grouptrack. No need to duplicate your basstrack.

maybe I did it the other way I dunno but it sounds quite okay bass in face to me,only the parts where the Bass is not there the kick is too loud and the new bassnote seems a bit besides rhythm.. these parts are strange.. but other are to my liking.
I have put the sc comp as insert on bass and on kick in sends with prefader on the the sc comp of the bass...
Looks like I will do the method you both tell me.
Nevertheless I would more like to work with the sc cubase comp and without the quadro group,at least in this case now.
Many thanks

I'm using cubase 4.. the new compressor with the side chain function..
I just want to side chain bass and kick in this track so far.
So the prob is only when the bass is not on one than the kick is louder.. so I thaught I have to use a ghost method.
And well...not ghost kick.. as it should be but ghost bass..quite psyco ,I dig it is not the right way..
have to recreate this with a group or sth..& first to rethink it all..

Duplicate your kick channel and turn the volume down (this will be your ghost kick), on the ghost kicks channel go to sends an choose the compressor for the channel you want to side chain(assuming you've already set this up), set it to pre fader and turn it up to zero.

So to recap

1, duplicate

2, send, pre fader,

3, turn up to zero

when the existence/nonexistence of your basseline effects the volume of you kick, you have to change the compressor settings, or you have routed something wrong... there should be NO volumechange at the kick.
in this case there is no need for a ghostkick, a "ghostbass" complicade things more and more.

that is the way I'll look into working on,to change the settings of the compressor is a good seeming idea to me.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

hola
I still don'T know enough to get me satisfied so I throw here another funny questions ,hope to get some help from someone.
This time I try to get the quadro tequnick going &have a question.
The youtube tutorial says that when gettin into f4 you have to add a stereo and the other stereo subbusses to your sidechain group.
I'm a bit confused why stereo when you want mono?
I think I have to add just the mono buses opiton yes?

I must say tutorials are nice but often for minds like me it is often to vague and not clear enough.

I'D be really glad if someone could help me with it.
It is confusing me since I have for bass and kick mono files. What kind of a bus do I have then to route to.
Since these two channels are mono any stereo bus is bullshit, but well please help.

(I use for it the sc comp from cubase)

I do sidechain with quadro for now as supergroover adviced.

And it works yeah this is also not my problem that it is not working.I just want to know other methods.
I could just throw a db sidechain comp or whatever, but there you would not need any ghostkick.

And it works with the quadro when I connect all like supergroover tells. But,the tutorial is a bit different for quadro with the subbusses..

I've been wanting to try out ghost kick. If you put the compressor on the bass, and then double it, put it through the side-chain input of the original, and then mute the secondary? Does that mean to turn off (mute) on the note level? Or turn off (mute) at the track level?           http://soundcloud.com/short-circuit

Hey SCircuit,I have a group for now quadro but I think a normal mono group will do it also.
There as insert a compressor with a side chain function.
The kicks are copied and muted and the muted version got connected via sends to the group with prefader on.
Bassline channel is also send to the group but without the prefader.
It works good can change in the compressor the settings and hear the difference, still am not sure if it is the good way,but that's what I do with the ghost kick.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden
