depends on what you're trying to do. If you're doing mixing or you're cleaning up the project, doing more 'technical' side of things work then I find that being stoned impedes my progress.

However, if I'm just fucking around with sound design or something then getting stoned definitely helps!

Lately I've been finding that if I wake up and do a good 5-6 hours of work sober, then I can smoke and just mess around for a bit. If I just get stoned right from the getgo I just mess around and nothing gets done.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

i usually don't either drink a glass of wine when making music, because i loose concentration, if i get stoned i start play around with some knobs and stuff for hours without concluding nothing, maybe 30 sec of groove ehehhe, but those are points of view i know guys that get fuckin high and produce killer sound, but a thing i noticed in this case is to get high when listening to the track u already composed, also if is 2-3 min long, u can have more open senses and understand what is sounding good and what's not(or anyway u understand it better), and c'mon guys let's say the truth, in psytrance scene mostly of the ppl do drugs, so is like u're listening ur track from the point of view of the guy with owl eyes and wild mandible

Three days a week i go to work .. i fix boats... i like what I do. But smoking every day has kind of made me little slow. If i do not smoke for few weeks, i am more active and concentrated at work but then dont really like to make music.

works most of the times but you have to keep it in normal level when you doing more detailed stuff in your tracks

In the other side when i work (my job is web/graphic designer and i work most of the times in my house as free lancer) i used to do more especially when i stack in some code part and i want to relax...          ...into the wild....

Sometimes you need to get something to get into the zone to test things out. I usually do not work on things while stoned, but I can listen and write down stuff on the "to do" list.

In the begining it helps me keep focus, i think it have potential to dive into something and really be in it. But then i get ´lazyer and lazyer and if i smoke everyday my creativity just stops.
I notice, smoke a little can improve the creation, like you see things from a slightly altered perspective. but when completely blasted out of ure skull, productivity gets impossible .           .

I don't know, but I enjoy the process of music making, more.

When I'm getting high while messing around with music, I start to get aware of frequencies I wasn't aware of before. Mostly because it enhances the ability to focus on certain sounds by neglecting other ones.
Occasionally that ability really becomes in handy (especially when it comes to EQing) given that I can switch between my stoned mode of hearing and my regular one.
On the other hand getting high for me bears the chance of letting me become totally incapable of creating any good sound. This is when I am not able to switch modes and doctor around a certain frequency range until I'm happy with it only realize the next day that the so modelled freqs don't fit to the rest. At all.

In terms of creativitiy it can help. Pretty much because (as others already said) I have no picture of the sound I want to create but literally "fool around" with the knobs. This clearly eliminates the boundaries of learned taste. That doesn't necessarily make it better. But different:biggrin:

Depends, but when I make music I'm sober most of the time as I don't smoke that much(or not until evening) and don't feel the need to and usually my mind is more floating without it (I'm somehow convinced that mostly weed enhances asociate thinking(the oh so magical I smoke weed an my mind opens) which can be good but also it just can turn out to stupid shit really..ofc other things are stimulated too not just a.t)

I also noticed that after some time my ears really start to fatigue in a nasty way when I'm high so I'm not really aware of the sound and it somehow becomes muddy allover when lsitening
(When listening to other stuff it's the opposite:D, crystal clear and sounds become more separated simultaniously or I can easier focus specific ones than sober)

I usually tend to play around in my DAW when backed which is really fun( and can result in a foundation for a new track) but for serious producing I mostly stay sober

I am mosty sober but it depends what i got to smoke
For long time i thinking that smoking improve my production but a lot of times i do better job when i am sober.

I like to smoke when i am looking for new sounds, when i am looking for inspiration, then it works very well. Sometimes i can make better mix and production when i am high because i can focus on small pieces. Sober vs High is 3:1 in my case

I wish I could get stoned like i used to a few years ago.
It was just pure magic, all sounds turned into lush awesomness, but I did get really really lazy, although it helped a lot with getting ideas in my head.
Now I don't get stoned much at all, only when I'm smoking the absolute best stuff, but that's kind of pricy
