get one with midi in and out,and capable of importing sounds too like rca,
sequencer..software -cakewalk or logic audio
hardware..you can start with a Yamaha Qy70 -
qy700 iheard are good for more $

well i like the echo cards no midi on them but great sound convertors u will get great sound qulity and its not that expensive u can get the echo mia 24 it costs 200$ in the usa and its a meen machine its got digital in and out 8 vitual outs (meening u can open 8 clients on ur computer and eatch one will go to a different out )and for midi u can use a usb midi inteface u can get one with 8 ins and outs more then any card will give u if u r using more then 1 hardware synth or asynth with more then 1 midi in/out u probably got asound blaster now so u can leave it in and u will have 1 midi in/out i wouldnt recomend the cakwalk no ofence to those who recomended it its to simple not to many efects for it and less features then the others get the cubase or logic audio but the logic is less intuative then the logic so the cubase will b easier to learn and they both support vst effects and instruments and the cakewalk dosent
