Getting samples/speech/effects

Hi all!
Usually where do you get your sample/speech/effects? You produce them? Get from internet? Rip from videos? Buy them? How you manage quality after that?

ok, I did some from youtube too and then in cubase I figured the quality.... but not sure if it would sound same as 24/96 original sample. |

cut from movies or audiobooks. i use to wait for the things i like until they got released on dvd, think this should be best soundquality possible.
if i need something really now, i also like to record streams, but it´s not that nice quality. as i cant use soundforge or wavelab on my mac, i can recommend AudioHijack for this job to record. really nice tool, love it.
anyway often i dont want to watch the whole movie and just interested in single sounds, then this is a nice option. i.e. i had one track made with a very weired and really really dark intro i took from the movie "seeed", which i was not able to watch the beginning just for another second time. anyone who joined this movie will know what i mean.
btw i record any soundsource on my mac with it  so just one click and i can record the sounds of maybe icq, skype, safari, any application installed, let´s say ..... any soundsource =D=D and everything passin through my engine.
second option is to do the sounds you need yourself. i like a warm mix between both. i like to record stuff from movies to give the track a theme and go on with my own interpretations and sounds. i do most of my sounds and samples/fx myself. just figure out few synth u like and start playing around with them. record, cut, paste, chop, process and there u go. as u like.
surge is a very versatile synth, i like to use most at the moment. u can even do everything with this synth, i mean it´s the shizZle itself. jsut give it a try, check out the fx section, route some fm, try around and u will know what i mean i usually dont have to process any sound with this synth. zebra also very cool.

movies,documenteries,reports etc..soundtracks,also mic recording and processing.
Audiobooks are always cool to hear in.
Never from too famous films - the other can have it.
Own accapellas from other genre.
Love wavelab for all that also.

Use http://vixy.net to capture audio from youtube - it's very easy. (only mp3 though)

i wonder how it comes with copyright when sampling from movies..
as long as you release a track for free its ok otherwise you have to pay for right?

it is not ok in any way. Even if it is for free. But nobody really cares because our scene is too small. Too small usually to reach the people that originally made the stuff you are sampling. |

you can completely forget all sorows about that ,if you sell less then 10000 pieces/ edition or probably more.
In another underground genre(a much smaller gerne) 1000 releases/edition was rather a limited edition.And all tunes ,really almost all,contained orchestral samples from movies.
We started with 1500 before a second of the same was about to go.
So I think copyright is not that important for underground if you dont sell bigger amounts.
