I do not know how the copyright laws work exactly, but they usually are quite unintelligently forged.

For example, if you have a copyrighted image and you change it somehow, like changing the color, you own 50% of that image. But that does not mean you can do whatever you want with it. So to show backwards the laws really are: think that one guy makes a logo (like Coca Cola(R)). He owns 100% of the image. Then another guy makes it red. Now the second guy owns 50% of the image, even though it only took him a couple of seconds to change the color.

The laws does not reflect the amount of time that has gone through the production, they merely reflect a commercial or intellectual interest at the time it is produced.

Another misconception is that the copyright laws are tailor made to protect the individual against large corporations. It might have been true in the beginning, I do not know, but today the corporate interests always go before the interests of the individual, regardless if it is a copyright issue or patent or some other kind of so called "intellectual property".

In your case, you simply have to live with it. Get into practice of making several mixes of each track. Like one real edit with no legal ramifications, one radio edit, one experimental and one inofficial which you do not release.
