Topic subjects (when you view a section) are sorted by the date of the last post in them in descending order, i.e. from the newest at the beginning to the oldest at the end.
Posts within a topic content (when you view a topic) are sorted by the date of the post in ascending order, i.e. from the oldest at the beginning to the newest at the end.
quite simple, actually. you'd get the hand of it soon.
