for life you can try modulations ,velocity change , notes size and their place on the grid with quantize off may help in some case, even for drums and many sounds turn quantize off and use your ears to get more groove.

if you use a long kick , it can work to mix the first bassline note behind it on a other chanel to eq it to sound good with the tail of the kick

Nah... that'd just kill em'

Bass note velocity is the key to the funky, smelly, sub creatures.

Will a DAW still work with the Q-grid off ?

K/B and other elements Sound good, But that open hat seems a tad bit loud to me.

Yup, kbbb is good, the hihat that comes in at ):14 is too loud, instead of lowering the volume you might get away with eq, which would leave more space for another element... try to twaek a little there, if it doesn't work you can still lower the volume...
