This couldn't be true. It fails every basic judicial test.

Let's say I'm an artist who makes tracks, burn them and play in parties only. Can I expect a life sentence?

Well, dont make music then.
If you won't make music, no one will pirate your music because it doesn't exist. Problem solved.

They are even desighning a cd you cant copy
now....

Where does all the money go if it,s not to the artists deffently not for the plastic but to some git multinational
You have not gone far away, they have gone far away and they have been going on and on for millions of years. The distance between the real man and the man that exists in the world has become almost unbridgeable. They are so far away from their own realit

It's been happening here in Portugal too. A couple of years ago they started to check some house partys and some discos. And yes, they are fighting the soulseek djs. The portuguese law is getting clear on this matter: It's NOT illegal to play CD-R, but you have to prove later that you own the orginal and show them the invoice. This applies to vinyl too. You must keep every invoice of every single piece of music you buy. Other problem is promo cds. If you have those, you must get a written declaration from the legal owner (label or producer).
I still don't think they are into the trance scene, they're focusing in discos first, and I know a couple of guys (porto and lisbon) who'll have to pay over 1000 euros for the illegal music they were carrying.

sound fair to me that they had to pay over 1000 euro. At least DJ's should pay for the music they play

Police have absolutely nothing to do with copyrights, and no way to verify immediatly if a cd is even copyrighted at all (with a copyright organisation). only the staff of GEMA ( http://www.gema.de , a copyright organisation like Acum, Sabam, ... each country has it's own) are qualified for this and allowed to receive the copyright fee's.

I don't see what the police have to do with this at all (except for writing out a warrant if the party is on private property and invitation only and the GEMA officials aren't allowed in at the party.

Also, you're legally allowed to make copies of cd's you own for your own use, as long as you only use one of these discs at the same time. So a dj doesn't have to take his expensive record collection to a party and have the risk of it being stolen or damaged and such.If this is the case you have to be able to show the officials your original records within a certain period of time.

In belgium an alike organisation (sabam) constantly makes selections of parties and visits them to see if copyrights where paid and originals are being used by the dj's, with possible fines (range 2-500 euro's)for the dj's if you can't provide the originals, and even larger fines for the organisers if they didn't report the party in advance to pay copyright fee's for the records played.

anyone up to date on german copyright laws?

No, but the organiser does have to pay acum, or whatever local copyright organisation applies a fee for you playing your own tracks (if you're not registered with such organisations to protect copyrights of your tracks -so sabam has told me in belgium- you still have to pay and are entitled to a possible refund at a later point in time)

I'd like to read Dr.Borris's opinion on this matter, he's better at copyrights than I am           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. Get a free 250Mb Artist profile, Blog and events calender!

This sounds like a joke... and in any case, would be a better issue to police from within the community if a peaceful way could be found.

I also won't leave home with an original under any circumstance... too much risk involved.
