so here, the question, mostly to those of you who're already making psytrance and getting releases and stuff like that...

what's your workflow like..? I mean, with the kick and bass, and the percs and the samples and the synth lead lines and stuff, what comes in first..? in what order do these seemingly seperate fragments come together in which to create the simulation of an alive psychedelic experience..?

i'm really interested to know if you plan the instruments / patches that you will use in the track in advance and put them aside somewhere like a distinct folder..

I know there are no rules, but it will be of super great value if you guys just shared your method / views / opinions on the matter to me and other beginning producers!

the workflow is to finish tracks. no matter how you start.
the way you start a track may change from track to track.

it's always a good idea to know what you going to put in there.
it can be melodies or sounds in your head, piano play improvisations, tweaking knobs in synths or a inspiring preset to start with. or you can get inspired by a reference track.

but you can build a track by trial and error and pure experimentation.

it's easier if you include the track foundations, kick and bass.
they may not be the definitive ones, but they will help you build the track outline.

+1

I usually start with kick and bass and add hats and snare. After that I start on a melody and usually run into short sounds/fx while searching for a melody. When I have gathered some more sounds to actually finish a part of the track I start working on the story. Whenever I run into something I can use I place it in the proper part of the track. That way you just add and add until you have enough to start building the whole tune and eventually finish it.

It is important to be happy with all the sounds in your track. But don't spend hours and hours messing around with one sound. If you can't get it the way you want it, skip it and find something else to work with.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

i'm no blue name, but what has certainly improved my workflow was first making all the elements i think i need in the track and then writing an outline of how the track progresses down on paper.

of course i'll add some sounds/melodies later on and often deviate quite a bit from the "plan", but still this has reduced the time i need for arrangement from weeks to days

the thing you start with doesn't matter. just fool around with different things until you find a chord progression, melody or rhytm pattern (or whatever) that evokes a vision for a track and can be expanded upon.

Put this question and express it not in words but in music, then create your own answer in the same track... voila!

Each artist develops their own workflow, however from a personal point of view I find if I make the foundations first, the kick and bass must be fat and gel together and I chose the initial bass notation then I add some percussion to build a basic groove and start building in melodic ideas and stabs, it is very helpful if you can write notation for a main melody early on so you can fit all of the ideas together from the beginning. Often I found in the past if you just experiment and make as you go along you can have sections which are very different musically from what came before, this is not an ideal situation.           https://soundcloud.com/pro-gram-0
