if u have a small room forget the mackie 824 so u have the dynaudio bm5a that are fine for small rooms and the genelec (both ok 8040 better with the 6,5inch woofer)
its a matter of listening both and choose who u like more cos they are both great monitors!

every monitor at this price range has its own signature.
I'd personally would prefer Genelecs, for the sound I'd like to hear and acomplish.
Many people would choose dynaudio instead for another certain sound signature.

Mackie HR-624, perfect for small to medium size rooms with incredible volume, accuracy and detail. In fact they are better from their big brother the 824.

Mackie Hr824's are solid monitors, though some complain about the price. Bass response is quite nice. As far as "Flat Response" goes, I doubt many monitors are truly flat. The EQ response curve that comes with my Mackies has up to +/- 3db dips up and down the spectrum all over the place.
Consider the monitors all your fav. artists use, that should help cement your decision. (Would Posford lie?)

I think I missed the lecture where lower-end speakers were considered better than their higher-end counterparts. ;] Are you saying that compared to the price of the Hr824's, they are a better choice?

@ PsytillIdie
All i'm saying is that the 624s as the next model from the 824s, have improved and more accurate mid-range(one of the major complaints for the 824s - but not meaning at all it was not good) and better stereo image.
I was about to buy the 824s, but i spent 2 weeks before that, reading everything i could find regarding them. Everyone, from users to magazines, agreed on what i mentioned above(i didn't make them up or by listening to both of them) and that the 624s would be a more preferred solution for small to medium size studios, considering the sound quality, the price and the volume they can offer. If you search you'll find all the relative info ;]
Unless there is big enough space and the 824s are set far from the walls, the low cut should be set at 47hz, which is almost the same response with 624s. And this was another factor that made me go for the 624s.
And by the way, the HR-626 are way much better than both of the other two.

i found the 624 have very uncontrollable low freq i was working with them for about 2 months every day and im pretty confident on my opinion! indeed the mids and highs are very good but those low was very unstable!
thats the reason i chose dynaudio bm5a but also genelecs were very good!
i cant say that the 624 are bad in any way but i would trust mixing on the others more easily!
