Hey there! Going to upgrade my monitors, going from M1 Active Mk2. I've heard the Genelec 8020A and KRK V4 Series 2, and I like them both. Anybody tested the bigger versions? |

listen to them but i think the 8040 are the best in their price range, better than the dynaudio bm5a and bm6a for lot of people ,after you buy the sub and you have a good monitoring for middle size room.from users review they translate very well |

The 8040's are an acquired taste as they have somewhat of a harsh upper range which can be fatiguing for some people..
However monitors are strictly a personal choice, i went for Dynaudio BM6A's because they seemed more neutral and less fatiguing to me..
I think between your comparison the 8040's would be a better choice..

Genelec = Clear cristal sound with a little color on the lows.
Dynaudio = Flat straight sound
So, maybe for the ones who are professional enginers the Dynaudio are better.
But for those who are used to references at the car or at home or in a very nice sound system the Genelcs are the best because they give you that kind of sound very "Hi-Fi".
I have Genelec 1031-A and im very very happy with them, just i have little problems to adjust my lowers frecuencies but because of my room acustic problems. |

between the 2 u said genelec are far better!
i would suggest u to listen to dynaudio bm5a and bm6a first!
i was too choose between genelecs, dynaudio and adam i chose dynaudio bm5a they sounded more flat and revealing between the 3 genelecs had a nice and clear sound but a little to harsh on the high freq and kinda hifiish adam had a great sound but i didnt like the super bright high freq very good sound tho!

Genelecs have a very punchy and crisp sound, the downside is that everything sounds tight on them, and like S-Cube said, they can be very fatiguing for the ears, specially with this kind of music. I wouldnt have genelecs as my only pair of monitors because of that. But damn they sound great!!!
I would urge you to listen to as many types of monitors in your price range as you can get hold of...Find a pair that suits you.
Here is some other monitors you can check out:
Dynaudio: BM6a/BM5a, Mackie: HR824, ADAM: P11/22/33a, Blue sky: system one/pro desk, Hafler:TRM 8.1/6.1

Oh yeah if you're willing to look into other monitors in the $1000 range then check out the ADAM A7 as well, i've been hearing lots of good things about them!
Other than that i would recommend Dynaudio BM5A/BM6A..

I heard some at a friend of mine, he has a very small room with no acoustic treatment. Think he said they cost 1700$
They had a very clear and pleasant sound, but the bass was very uneven, probably due to the room. |

Maybe you should also consider the Mackie HR-624.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

Hello there,
Well I have Event Studio Perscission 8 Passive with an Alesis AMP RA500.
For the moment I am OK with that sound results.
Also know that the AMP give a little color in the speakers but from the moment u learn the speaker is not a problem.
