So sorry to hear about such bad news.
The value that I have received from Gemini over the last 3 years of my attendance has been so much that I would gladly pay a generous donation to help make another year a possibility.

Though, one of the last things you want is people arriving and thinking it's free and not planning on having the extra money to pay the ticket. I know when I roll up to a festival.. I have every penny planned out, just enough to get me home, so just saying, I see ur point about random people not being there, but I would just make sure that the people know there's a ticket price.
That being said, I've never been to gemini but I would have no problem paying if I was to go.. with the wonderful things I've heard about past festivals and the lineups have been impressive. |

I think that it's completely fair to charge entry at Gemini, though within reason of course. Because it has historically been a free festival, the entry fee cannot go up too high before people start to mind. I think that anything less than $50 is completely fair for the weekend though.  Also I hope that it goes back to being a free festival in later years once things are going better for you and all who are involved. I always thought that Gemini being free gave the place a really good vibe right off the bat. Not that I think charging admission would affect the good vibes, but something would be different. That said, I still completely support you charging admission in these times. It is a much much much better alternative than canceling this festival.
Maybe some larger artists who aren't on the lineup right now would want to play in for charity or at least discount to bring more heads to the party, so that hopefully the cost is covered.

Well think about it, people keep going to gemini for how awesome it is, not because its free. Such a wonderful gesture to do it 100% genuinely like that is awesome, but am I right that people go not just because its a free party. Like its not that thats all its about, so Rich its totally okay to ask for support, we're all giving it

Thieves suck. Terrible news. Barely met you last year during setup but you seem like you're overflowing with heart. I feel you'll get it all back in kind karma in some form or another someday. Really sorry to hear about this.
I agree with what others have said. I'd definitely pay an entrance fee, but I believe you can do it without random flyer advertising. The same promotion, and the same crowd as usual WILL pay for the event.
Come on people, let's step up here! Give back to what you've enjoyed freely in the past.
Fundraising is a great option also. This compilation idea is awesome. I'll buy one for sure. I hope it goes ahead. A fundraising pre-event could help as well.
Also consider setting up a paypal account to take donations. I'd gladly donate to the cause, and I sure many others would as well.
