With more listens this album just gets better and better - I don't agree with what you say here Jyrgen... I think Gaudi has been very sensitive with his compositions and respectful in his treatment of the vocals

I'm not a Nusrat expert, but I find there's a mellowness in his voice that I really appreciate...

I give Gaudi credit for not trying to outshine this wonderful voice with dominant music and effects...

listen out for the amazing cello [recorded live at Gaudi's Metatron studio]

Got the album from itune this morning,
listening now...

yes is quiet pop, but very nice arragement by Gaudi,
if my memory work good,
he use the originals recording sessions from some cds, Nusrat did with Real World Rec.
i remember some of them very pop oriented.

well done mister Gaudi, the dub translation is much better then the Real World originals albums.

Received the CD this morning ... reaches super fast if you're based in the states.

This album is a work of art. The arrangement is perfect, giving Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan voice great balance with the rest of the composition.

My girlfriend speaks Urdu so I've been getting phrase by phrase translations for each track. Adds so much more depth but I will have to agree with Outolintu. Most songs are about love found and then lost, very melancholic. It's at that point that Gaudi's happy dub doesn't vibe with whats being said.

Track 1 keeps the feeling intact. Especially with the intro by Mahatma Gandhi. One of my favorite songs of all time.

It's mostly sunshine dub all the way from then on. The cello works wonderfully. The percussion hits the spot. Works very well if you're listening to it as a complete piece. Just wish Gaudi had done a little more research in terms of what is being said. Only say this because its Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan... its poetry.

Would recommend it to everyone... and will definitely play a lot of the tracks.

While perhaps it's sloppiness on Gaudi's part, I would say that many composers have consciously juxtaposed "happy" music with "sad" lyrics over the years. The Beginning of the End by NIN comes to mind as a recent example. Perhaps the classic example is MMMbop.

Overall I find it an ok album...definitely has the six degrees easy listening aspects to it. I agree that track 1 stands out, also Track 6's vocal sounds amazingly like some old school reggae vocals, works great for the track.

As an aside, I actually got it at the local record store, it's nice to see Gaudi getting that kind of distribution thanks to six degrees.           http://soundcloud.com/herbert-quain

There was a nice piece regarding Nusrat on NPR's 'Morning Edition' this morning. They mentioned the new cd by Gaudi and played some as part of the bumper music. Glad to hear this cd is doing well... Go Gaudi!

Nusrat is pure gold. His voice and rhythms inspire so much. Gaudi has done the music justice and made it his own. Awesome!!!!

We have an unexpected pairing on "Dub Qawwali"—electro-dub savant Gaudi and the late, legendary Pakistani qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Working with recently discovered Khan vocal tracks, Gaudi has artfully crafted a surprisingly profound blend of Qawwali music and dub reggae. Qawwali is the music of
Sufi mysticism, and Khan was surely one of the greatest of Qawwali singers. Gaudi has shown a keen sensitivity to Khan's legacy and Sufism in creating the 10 tracks on this disc. Sometimes the reggae vibe is pronounced, as on "Ghamgar Bare Ne" and "Ena Akhiyan Noo," while on others like "Bethe Bethe Kese Kese" the dub component is more subtle, in this case anchoring the bottom of the track. The result: a brilliantly realized concept and a stirring world music album.
