does know if any gate plugins exist (dx or vst) in which you can trigger the gate via a midi signal, ie to use it rythmically? its apparently impossible to or extremely improper to create a gate plugin which uses an external signal such as another channel going in to its sidechain, but are there any where a basic midi channel can be used as the side chain? id appreciate any help, cheers lads/ladettes

Haven't heard of any

But Logic has a Gate plugin which can be trigered by an audio channel as a sidechain - with frequency settings and envelope and everything.

ok, ive downloaded midigate
im using sonar2, so i ha to wrap the plugin so i could use it as a dx plugin-
according to the midigate programmers' website, you have to output another midi channel to the input of the plugin which is set as an effect over the channel you want to gate- but sonar didnt recognise this midi out, so i had to define the plugin as a dx instrument in order to get a midi input to it.

now sonar picks this up, and i can get the plugin to work, simply patching the instrument in the fx bin for the channel i want to gate- but it doesnt work very well, skipping some notes, almost like theres a latency problem with it or something like that. also, i dont get the graphical interface of the plugin when its wrappedfor direct x use, though this is probably something to do with the programming of the plugin. anyone got any ideas on how i can solve the latency thing?

isnt midigate a vst pplugin and not directx??
id say it wouldnt function correctly if you're trying to use it as a directx plug
