I have no knowledge of sound engineering or production. So please forgive me if this question sounds a bit naive.

Why isin't there an industry standard for the gain levels at which cd's are recorded. I'm tired of having differnt cd's at varying gain levels. Is it that difficult to have cd's recorded at a standard gain level which is the agreed between all the major labels.

in short: no there is no standard...

in length: listen to other genres, its the same story... some will sound diffrent then others, some will sound better not just louder also. some will sound louder and worst. mastering is an art and good mastering costs alot of money. since many labels in psytrance do not have the proper funds to master correctly - we get products that are not always on the same level, and i use the word level in its metaphoric sense and technical one as well. what i was joking about domestic, is that he does the mastering for hommega and some other artists outside the label... he is considered the top guy by many (and for a good reason).           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Perhaps different people mastering have different ideas of what sounds right If thats the case, they will never agree.

What we can do is to gain everything up to the max, and then install a limiter somewhere so we get the same levels.

mastering is just the final touch , and mastering cannot make miracles so i guess diferent artists have different ways of workin, there is no "one" rule for makin it. So thats why diferent tracks have diferent sound levels.

i guess it´s not that simple, cause even if 2 tracks reach same db for example -0.2 this does not mean that they actually sound the same when heard in terms of "volume". that way would be way too easy for anyone to produce killer tracks with killer eq like top trance artists can.

Mastering Engineers have many different ways in mastering the tracks and also labels and artists ask for different ways for mastering in their tracks.

Some artists give more importance on high frequencies for example while other people want the kick louder and stuff like that.

Matter of taste i guess.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
