ok sounds fair enough. sarcasm transfers badly over the interweb I didn't want anyone to thank me or give me a golden throne to sit on. So I'm sorry for leaving the impression of "self praising"
there sure is sense in disabling network cards, especially on daw's... see I think of a daw as a dedicated machine to audio... no internet, no games, no experiments. But if your daw should incorporate such a thing like fx teleport, wormhole, gigastudio or whatever I think you're gonna sit in front of that installation, tweak shit until it's working... that's what I did, I didn't let me fool of things other said. You never know until you've tried it yourself.
as I said I had crackling and hiccups aswell when I tried fx teleport earlier, with LAN 100 Mbit... but with gigabit it's a whole other story.
Long sentences, short meaning - audio production is still an expensive hobby, needs lot of time investigating and trying things out for yourself. |

SideFXed gave really good info about the chainer, nvc and gigabit here and i'm getting feedback from other people too that are very happy with fx teleport but i agree that specifically lan and soundcards is an issue.
Anyway, since i already have two pcs (no internet on both of these) i'll try it out in about a month and i'll keep you posted.
Cheers

My Wormhole configuration is working fine with no network tweaks; standard configuration. The only thing I need to to to run it is turn off Sygate on the slave machine (leaving the XP firewall to take care of the internet connection) as otherwise it thinks it's undergoing a DoS attack. I have it running through a switch too, and both machines permanently connected to the net.
It is possible
BTW, I've never heard of soundcard manufacturers recommending you disable LAN cards. Which soundcard are you talking about here?

I think that generaly problem isn't in the LAN card or Sound Card it is do to MB use of IRQ and PCI slots expecialy if it is integrated LAN card. Some MB shares IRQ for 2-3 PCI or some integrated stuff. On some PC's ther is a problem with integrated sound and SB Live series cards when you reed your HDD-a there is some crapy sound doing trrr trrr from speakers.
Personaly i had that problem on my old GIGABYTE MB but now with EpOX ther is no problems.
It is very important to see how your hardwer is set it up ( compability ).
If someone have some question about PC PM i would help without problems because I worked ln PC service and privatly working with PC's.

well tehnolgy of to day is far of our posibilitis to explore her and her options.. every day some one comes with new CPU, Memory... and what we to do how to folow that... Most worse thing is that programs folow that tehnology step to step and old progs don't have to much suport when somthing new comes... so what to do buying new PC every 6 months?! I think not. I hope that this will slow down a litle if not ... what to say then shits hapens.
In a few months i hope to buy new PC about 1000 EUR but what to buy we will see.
realy enjoyed tallking in this topic

and exactly here the use of fx teleport or wormhole kicks in. why buy a new computer now? wait till it's cheaper, link your pc's together and you already got almost the power of a high spec computer. Every additional pc you get into the network, even laptops will bring an advantage. When the prices drop, buy a l33t x2 cpu with ddr2, that's what I will do. Still, I'll continue using teleport because it rocks having not to care for cpu. |
