FUZZION¡ºBLACK MAGIC¡»¡¡~Interview by LOUD Magazine~

Q.1
¡ªTill now your music are offered by various label, and what is the reason to release this 1st album ¡°BLACK MAGIC¡±from BOSHKE BEATS?
A:
There are many reasons for that. First of all the music itself and its ¡°boshkeness¡±. Tracks that were released on other labels were not supposed to be on the album (with one exception, which is Tango De Color Mango, released on TIP World). Tracks for the album were selected very carefully, one by one, only the best. And I was always certain to release my first album at Boshke Beats.
Q.2
¡ªTo listen to ¡°BLACK MAGIC¡±I feel it became more techno-style now than before(psychedelic-trance or tech-trance). What is your idea behind the work? What has changed in your life?
A:
Everything is constantly changing in our world, in our minds. I never said: ¡°ok, now I stop making psy-trance and start making techno¡±. Just because I am an artist, when creating music I always try to think above style definitions and musical boundaries. That¡¯s why tracks on Black Magic are so different and some people may say ¡°it is techno¡±, the others ¡°it is trance¡±. I listen to all kinds of music and for me it doesn¡¯t really matter if it is trance, house, rock, pop or experimental, the only thing that matters for me is if I like it or not. Yes, Black Magic sounds more techno-style but there is no big idea or meaning behind that, the idea and meaning are in the music itself.
Q.3
¡ªWhat is your main concept of ¡°BLACK MAGIC¡±?
A:
The main concept is ¡°music above style definitions¡±, no-commercial music art straight from above. Traveling, meeting different people and cultures, listening to all kinds of music¡ªall this produced major influences under which the music for this album was created. The Magic is that it is ¡°No Style¡± and ¡°All Styles¡± at the same time. Black as absence of color. The more I think about the name of the album the more and deeper philosophy I recover in it.

Q.4
¡ªWhich is the track thought to be expressible of the most your music-style? Or which track do you like the most in this album? Let us know your reason, too.
A:
For me it is not possible to define a track which represents my music-style the most. All of them do in some way. All tracks are different expressions of my music-style so to say different reflections of it. Favorite tracks change, almost each of them was my favorite for sometime, but for now I think it is Recharge for its roughness and straightforwardness and I See You for its fragility transparency and grace.
Q.5
¡ªTell me about melancholy track ¡°Little Girl¡± Its homage to your friends who once played Rock, isn¡¯t it? It really affected me this homage. There are many people who pursue musician career, but unfortunately only a fraction of them are able to get far. Do you have a message to former associate?

A:
Two of my friends many years ago played in a rock band in school. The band existed for only about one year, they didn't record anything and played just for fun, but they had a very nice song about a girl one of them fell in love with. It had a very pretty melody, very recognizable and easy to remember, me and my friends we all liked that song a lot. So years have passed and I used this melody in a track called Little Girl. Originally I made it half-jokingly as a surprise musical present for one of those friends birthday. I kept the production in secret and when He had a birthday party I played that track for the first time. It was a very touching and sentimental moment, because everybody recognized the melody that ¡°reincarnated¡± in a new musical body. Everybody were screaming and the friend who had a birthday (one of the two who wrote the song) was just standing with his hands on his head, smiling and with his eyes closed. It was a big surprise!
So there is a message in this track, but it is not really about people who pursue musician career but can¡¯t get far, we all played in rock bands in schools and it was more about having good time than about musician career. I made this track to make my friends smile and remember the school years. And the message is ¡°music created with love will always find the way to get heard¡± I was not planning to put this track on the album, but it received such a huge feedback on the parties I played, so I decided it should be on the album.

Q.8
¡ªHow long production period run? Do you have something event with deep memories for this period?
A:
Black Magic contains tracks that I made during a period of the last 3 years. As I mentioned above, while making music some of the tracks I released on various labels and others I saved for the album¡ªthe ones I liked the most. So now it is hard to tell how long the production period was because it was starched in time. Most of my deep memories for this period are related to traveling¡ªmy visit to Japan in 2003 with Clangour Boshke Beats Tour it was like a journey to the other planet for me! I have very bright and best memories from that trip for which I am very grateful for all the people who made this trip possible. Also this year I visited Latin America which also appeared as a whole new world for me.

Q.9
¡ªTell me your enthusiasm for refrained release-tour. And what do you expect for coming to Japan?
A:
As I mentioned above my first visit to Japan impressed me so much, that when I was flying back home the only thought was how happy I would be to return one day. Many people who visit Japan get impressed by the modern technologies¡ªit impressed me too, but more than that I was impressed by the way these technologies coexist with cultural roots and by how deep these cultural roots are, by the way people Japanese people preserve their traditions and follow them in everyday life. From coming to Japan I expect new friends, good music, good parties, good people, good food, many smiles and all the best emotions.
Q.10
¡ªOn a final question, give us your message!
If I had an opportunity to send a message to all the people I would send a smiley

and here is Vladimir speaks about his tracks and explianing his personal inspirations/motivations :

Distort and Discord

I was playing around with an old Soviet analog synthesizer. I plugged it into a guitar distortion pedal and received The Noise. This Noise became a starting point for Distort and Discord.

Black Magic

Black Magic was one of the tracks I can't really say if I created them or they created themselves using my studio. The selection of sounds, the harmonies--everything was so obvious that i really had no choice and it resulted in this suspicious piece of music.

Frog on the Run

Frog on the run is a product of inspiration by a Discovery Channel Wild Life Scene. The frog being hunted by a snake. A dialog between a predator and a victim.

C-41

For me C41 is a tribute to psychedelic Rock of the sixties and to all these "Acid Wave" artists, musicians, people and culture. A tribute to Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and all the rest.

Little Girl

Many years ago two of my friends played in a rock band in school. The band existed for only one year, they didn't record anything and played just for fun, but they had a very nice song about a little girl. I remembered this simple and naive melody and made this remake. Originally it was a joke and was supposed just to cause flashback in my friends minds, but after I played this track at several parties it received so much feedback that I decided to put it on the album also.

Recharge

When the batteries are low they need to be Recharged, the same with people on the danceflor!

Shizabitch

The words used in this track is just a funny rhyme we came up with joking around on some party. I was working on this track at that time and found this rhyme to fit perfectly in this track and the track to suit perfectly for this rhyme.

I C U

I can not describe this track in any way other than being a state of mind on that moment. State of mind is hard to describe by words and that's when music and other arts appear to be useful. Making this track I played a lot with different sound characteristics and it resulted in a delicate and transparent sounding which can be "seen through".

Starfall

Starfall came down on me as a whole complete thing in one moment. It is like being tooned to a certain wave or maybe mood, when everything you do appear to be right--every note, every sound. And you don't need to do anything, just stay tuned and ride the wave.

Mellow Yellow

There is no big idea behind this track. It was inspired by a beautiful summer sunrise at the country side.
