Is it different? Yes.
Is it experimental? Definitely.
Is it enjoyable? Not really.

I have liked a lot of the earlier Fuzzion-releases, and looking at all the praise and hype concerning the album, I really wanted to like it. Musically it's a very interesting and diverse album, but at the end of the day, I guess I simply don't understand what all the fuzz is about. I have heard it over and over again the last couple of months, but I often grab myself thinking "what's so amazing about it?". It simply doesn't grab me, and to be honest I found the whole thing rather pointless. Luckily taste differs though.

The only good tracks in my opinion where "Little Girl" and the "White Rabbit" remix.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I got the cd for my birthday huhu

Well, I eard some tracks from this album during Fuzzion's live performance at Transit Festival 2004, and it was a HUGE experience! I felt 300% of the romantico-analog mood... And was almost crying listening to "Starfall" at the end of the show.

Unfortunately, I don't really feel this again, listening to the cd at home... I miss the "dirty" sound of his previous releases from Boshke and Horns&Hoofs ,especially tracks like "Mecano" downtempo remix, which goes further for me.
Here I find the sound too cold, and the electrotech-noisy snares bother me a little bit at the end...
Anyway this is a good album format and progression, as there is a good wide variety with tracks like "Black Magic", "Frog on the run"(love the minimal percussion stuff here), "I see U", "Starfall"(for the summer 04 remembering), and "little girl"(for my girl friend)

So for me, this album is one piece, with a concept for itself, let's wait for the next one...

cheers!

Fuzzion
Black Magic
Boshke Beats

Sometimes reviewers such as the present writer may get all enthusiastic and say, “great album! It’s going straight in my record box / Case Logic / Memory Stick / etc”. Sadly this is seldom true: with Black Magic however, that’s exactly what happened and I subsequently forgot to review it.

Apologies then to you lot, to the label, and most of all to the artist for my missing out on hyping up one of my genuinely favourite albums in recent years.

Distort & Discord does just what it promises to do, a huge lumbering scaremonger of a track with noises so fat they should join Weight Watchers, and Tango De Colour Mango throws in a bit of Finnish, a bit of acid house, and a bit of spaghetti western. Black Magic and C41 are bustling, tight techno from the future, with the latter making wonderful use of discord. The tracks change and shift at every given opportunity – you’re never listening to the same frequencies twice. Frog On The Run is a wonderful, loveable bit of tribal spookcore, with just about the right amount of derangedness balancing against a psychedelic bambaata lead.

Recharge sounds like the inside of a computer on its last legs, Shezabitch is a fine stab at that electro-house-with-bloke-speaking-in-an-accent-over-the-top, both are as deep as they are fun. Next up, things start to get very very special indeed: Yellow Mellow has a certain mid-period-Orbital-ness to it, as though the melodies are bursting to get out from underneath a duvet of noise. It’s staggering and has that air of a timeless bit of electronic music about it.

As does Starfall, a sublime lesson in how simple patterns and melodies can be combined, healthily, into one of the singularly most honest, respectful and fluid wordless love songs ever recorded in the history of anything. This should be number one in the charts, and for so many, many reasons. Little Girl has echoes of the same melodic sensibility, pushed through a blender of progressive house and post-party warehouse techno. And again, is a gorgeous piece of electronic music.

One cheeky remix later (White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, and it’s good) we’re back into the album proper with Sound Surface – a desolate landscape of sound that would be highly unnerving, if not for the staggering little production tricks he throws in. Finally ICU is a mesmerising little psychedelic gnome to round things off nicely.

Artist albums should be this good: the flow runs from experimental, to shadowy, through to soaringly happy then back out the other side to experimental. This is bloody, bloody good and will appeal to way more people than the sinister packaging might lead you to believe. Put simply: psyreviews wants Fuzzion’s babies.

1. Distord & Discord

the first steps of the Cd start directly with a classic TR 808 minimalhouse-beat surrounded by some naiv electro-waves. It makes the direction and the humor of the CD directly clear. the track leads into some minor progression and is getting a more and more sensible touch and feeling with each note until the path of the track is going into a break with some hypnotic toms which intruduce the track into a new theme consisting of switching the parts together in a new structure. its cool how fuzzion suprises with some minimalisation of the elements. less is more. you got it people...

2. Tango de Color Mango
again the beat flips directly into the ear. this time with a electro-pop-synth including a nice pumping effect. the rythm is kinda interesting, maybe its tango? Sounds like a maschine telling you: shacke your ass babe! Whats this, a bassguitar? i start to feel like colt seavers, get me a chick, a hat and a gun dude!

3. Black Magic
Hehe for sure it starts directly, directly deep! A deep and warm kick and a deep and warm 303-like bassline. Some groovy noises come in and come delayed atmospheric sounds intruducing something growing up from a black shadow. i have a cd here but i swear it sounds like a pure vinyl. its getting more and more hypnotic, lost in black magic and
i... i... canaannt writtee anyy moreee...

4. c41
there is a bassline taking a kick in the package and lets go. I feel like driving in the night, something behind me something where i need to run, something to chase, but i keep the control! yeah, this is me, c41 whatever this means its burning.. get me some chords and some drivey beat and lets the hell run! the bassline is making you moving anyway where you stand or sit, you all become something of c41, black magic my friend, black magic... simsalabim: a pure dancefloor twister making people exploring their own crazyness.

5.
Frog on the run
breakbeat, a bit harder percussion compared to the first trax. electro again. and a crazy groove. seems like black magic modified my physics into a frog now. anyhow i am still in the night and i am looking through grasses and roll my eyes. and i got a laaaarge tongue, so take care babes, this cd is full of sexiness groove. do you ever explored your inner frog? no, then listen to this on floor and check out the smart drums and bells catching you.

6.
Recharge!
More the robot-style here. Electric boogy dance styles expressed through a rough beat and nice triangles. And be sure, you dont want to dance here, you do because you have to! this track is insolent direct and demanding. but after the licks of the frog anything is allowed here. i can see the people clapping their hands to this beat. nice ass-mover here.. and please dont wonder if you see dancing robots on the floor, its usual, black magic.

7.
Shezabitch
cool, what to say: just cool. reminds some old falco tunes. someone talking to me on the phone, he says "Shezabitch". aha. and i am the frog, so what? let me dance. realy headbut style, again i see the robots on the floor.

8. Yellow Mellow
aha flat eric is around here. a little bit more dry and steril. hello old Yellow friend. today the yellow mellow is telling us a happyness funky electro story. and it contains a subtile uplifting theme. oh yeas, its a lovesong. loving the beats, loving the maschines. come all together and have a nice time. family dance and atmosphere. a guitar again? cool... I am a human again and i want to take my friends and want go to the beach! now!

9. Starfall
its warm, the sun is shining on me. you now i am on the beach, spotting the scys and the pure beautyness of the nature having a relaxed time. reminds me some french air tunes. i can hear the sirenes... and i feel confortable in this bath of warm sound-atmosphere.

10. Little girl
after the relaxing-phase of the last 2 trax i feel like i have to put my feet in the air again. the deep drive of the tune catches the mood of the last trax and leads it into a more danceable groove. i am not on the beach anymore, i am somewhere above the clouds in the pure scy, love and peace. fuzzion you are .... magic.

bonus trax:

check them out by yourself my friend i only say here: cool, cooler, fuzzion

about the production:
the sound is direct minimal and sound just authentic. i am very happy that is not the that overproduced bigger better faster more production where everything is sounding cold and static. no, the fuzzion sounds warm and honestly. you can definitly hear fuzzion loves the maschines and the world of electronic music. i am also impressed by the use of classic drumsounds, back to the roots with modern creativity. the rythm is structure intelligent and danceable. the concept of the album and the storyboard is like a big wave starting, expanding, driving and finishing into the land of freedom. this is some kind of electro-pop, house and techno influenced groovy music. but contains more trance as a conceptional element, the idea behind it. fuzzion, you got it, i bow me respectfully.

10/10 points, album of the year so far

You're late, but that's okay. The album is quite a fine release and I have been enjoying it consistently for a couple of years now. Amazing how time flies.

<3's to Fuzzion for this one.
