heyy guys

2weeks ago when I looked for new headphones something reall funny happened to me!
when I tried to talk with the guy in the shop about the impedance of some soundcards, because its important you got the same (or almost) impedance in the soundcard as in the headphones, he just answered: "thats not important, you dont do so good music anyway" and tried to sell me 50ohm hp for a 250ohm interface as I know now

I'm still wondering how stupid that sentence is (that guy dont even know me or my music) and what kind of killer new marketing strategy that should be

now I'm curious if some of you experienced similar funny stories with incompetent sellers...

lets collect them here

The last time I ever tried to buy pro gear at a consumer electronics store.

"Do you carry Technics MKII turntables?"

"Yeah we got Technics turntables, top of the line turntables for listening to vinyl. Not MKIIs but even better."

"No, I need MkIIs. For DJing."

"But these are the top of the line turntables! *shows me consumer-grade turntables*"

"*walks away*"

very good stories so far

I forgot to mention that my experience is from amptown, a pretty pro-audio store...

just got another one from their pa/live-section yesterday!
I wanted to get isolated 3pole cable, to make 2 xlr cables with power supply for mics from it...so I asked the guy if they got that, explained exactly what I need and what I need it for...he seemed pretty experienced and really seemed to understand what I want, he cutted the cable for me and I was happy this shop was useful for something at least...

dumb me!
at home when I wanted to put the connectors on the cable, I recognized the fucker sold me 2pole cable!!
and he even said "this is microphone-cable for recordings and live-performances"

so this was defenately the last time I visited this shop, even while I get discounts there...except for changing the cable

Listen 2 this one:

A few years back I went to turnkey to buy a midi interface cause I needed one on the fly. The prick tried to sell me an audio interface for 120 quid. "Yeah thats what you need he says". So I look at the guy and tell him: I need a m-i-d-i interface not a soundcard. He start laughing like i didn't know what i was talking about and insisted with his ironic smile that this is what i needed.
He finally stopped fucking around when I told him I was a sound engineer and that I didn't had time to waste playing his little game. This is what you get when you go to turnkey... I don't go there often but most the seller there are totally incompetent and some have attitude.

It's kind of logical that sellers will know only about stuff that is often sold or about something they use also. I mostly buy cables and connectors from electronic repair shops. Those guys often have a wider array or connectors and cables than some general electronic store and surely know much more about stuff they sell.

But sometimes it's unavoidable to fall into hands of smart ass sales man. One time we found that CD player cables we brought for party have some weak points and music tends to "glitch" as the cables move. So I've run to the nearest store to buy 2 stereo cables.
The guy shows me cables with diameter close to hair and awful connectors.
I ask do they import this from China... no he says, from Turkey.
Anything else for audio I ask? No!
What about that short, thick, green cables behind you?
Oh... those are for video... won't work for audio!
Is that coaxial cable I ask?
No... it's for video.
Can I see them? Finally he hands me short, thick coaxial cable with letters A and V on connectors. I smile and say... this will do. Give me a pair please.
The guy looks at me and starts to warn me that if I tear the blister package he won't give me money back since he had warned me that those cables are for video only!!!
If there was a time when I was sorry as hell that I'm in a hurry - that was the day. Otherwise I would surely ask him how the hell do they teach copper in the factory to conduct only video signal and who the fuck told him that black cables are for audio and green ones for video

btw: coaxial cable was indeed made for one video and one audio channel (many old TVs have only mono audio) but they work quite good for stereo audio as well.           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. when i bought my scope at musicshop here, i payed for a scope board and waited the arrival.

suddenly after getting home the seller calls me and asks if i want the balanced or unbalanced - a board with xlr or a board with rca. so i wanted the rca one, and when my card arrives i see they sent the other one.

so i call the shop and the seller suddenlly insists there is no such thing and only one version of scope........ :0 when you look on thier site of course there are both versions.

someone said wankers?

Crazy stuff

My Girlfriends IPod had only 30Minutes batterylive when it was 12 Months old. So she went to the appleshop, complained and wanted to give it to warranty.
The seller refused and said, that it is normal, because it is winter and batteries work worse in winter and turned away (he knew its only playing 30minutes anymore). She tried to talk to him but he picked up a phone and ignored her. Now, she thought maybe it could be true, because to the chemicals reacting to temperature etc. and left.

When she told me the story I said, she wasn't that wrong, some batteries really work worse when its cold... BUT it wont reduce the playtime from 10 hours to 30 Minutes AND she actually mostly uses it at home or in the train and if she is on the road she carries it in the inside of her jacket, where its almost bodytemperature...

So I went with her to the store. The seller still insisted that it is normal.. So I asked him why it is normal.. he said "thats just the way it is, IPOds play shorter in winter." Then I asked him how her IPod, which is always in the warmth, can know that it is winter? he looked at me and said: "because of the internal clock and date"!!!!!

I asked, so well, then we can just reset the date to august and it will all work? ...he seemd confused and changed the subject.: "its normal that battery live get worse with time.."
But not from 10 hours to 30 Minutes in 12 months.. etc. etc.

It got even worse, once we convinced him he found out that the day my girlfriend was in the store was day 364 after she bought it.. the day we were there was day 366 - one day after the warranty (1 year).. then we had to convince him that it was his fault that she was late with bringing it in in the first place...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! today I wonder how I could stay calm... maybe because it was funny in a way...

Finaly he took it back... (it was the series with the many battery problems by the way)

I never went near an apple store since then
I still have no IPod.
