The review:

First off: This is a difficult style to explain. Anyone who has heard tracks of Funky Dragon (Igor Cuculovic) before on Synergetic compilations will understand what I'm talking about. His style hangs somewhere in between full-on and progressive, with lots of percussion thrown in to good effect. With that out of the way, and hopefully closing any debate about what style this is, I'll start the review properly. Track 1 starts off with some nice atmospherics. When the bassline and beat suddenly hit it immediately picks you up. This is seriously booty-shaking music we've got here folks! A nice flute goes on in this track as well and some effective percussions keep the hips moving. On to track 2 which in sound is a lot like the first one. A bit more mysteriously sounding because of some pads laid in the back. Percussion is again good and the bassline effective. This is a good point in most of the tracks Igor cooks up. On to track 3, which starts with a pad sound and percussions. The bassline is a bit different then before, but still funky as all hell. Good track, nice little melody too. Track 4 is a bit more atmospheric and has a more simple bassline. It's kinda hypnotic, this one. Track 5 has a lighter atmosphere and plays with sounds some more. Percussion is again very effective here, as on most tracks. Track 6 has one of the deepest basslines so far, and again the percussion is pretty good. Nice melody as well. Track 7 then. To me, this is the highlight so far. Everything fits here. The melody is good, the pads are good, the bassline really hits the spot and the overall feel is just great. Really danceable as well. If this track doesn't get you moving, nothing will. It's also one of the longest track on the album, spanning around 9 minutes. Track 8 starts really mysterious again, but it doesn't take long to get immersed in the funky dragon style again. Damn, there's just something about this style to me you know? It just drives on and on without getting boring. Track 9 finishes things off nicely, much in the same vein as track 1. And so we've come to the end of the album.

Conclusion time: I really like this style, as it seems to cross boundaries between full-on and progressive, and remains really funky and danceable. Most of the tracks sound a bit alike, but then again, they're effective and in my case this is a style I don't get tired of easily. So, a solid 8,5/10 in my book. The only negative point I can come up with is that the first tracks on the album, particulary tracks 1,2,3, could have done with a better outro. Now they just end kind of sudden, which is a shame really.

Anyway, this is recommended if you like funky psytrance with lots of percussion and a driving feel to it. And seriously, for a debut album this sounds really mature. Try it! I'm off to play it again...

I really liked this album too fatass basslines in every track n wild percussion. Really good debut album for sure, but a little more variation in the tracks would have been great! Anyways i hope this dude will bring some new fresh sound soon ;}
