Same deal as always...new track, would love criticism! I have failed yet again in my half-hearted attempt to not make it melodic, but it's (hopefully??!?) not cheesy.
In particular, is it over compressed/tiring to the ears? My first track with a more liberal use of compression on various channels...I think its pretty transparent but my ears don't really understand compression that much yet.

the first lead running too much time for me.
your mix lacks high's. raise your hihats.
the bassline in very nice!
do you have snare or clap?
you still have here work on cleaning the mix but it's nice.
your bigger problem for my opinion is that you too much use your sounds and the track is developing very slow. you use short phrases for a lot of time.
mostly psy artists don't use there melodies more than 32 bars. and mostly it will be 4 times melody of 8 bars. 1 time in the track. maybe 2.
which music do you like? which artists?

I like a lot of different stuff, but I am not trying to emulate a certain artist in particular, trying to do the find your own voice thing...
That's an interesting criticism on the first lead - which one do you mean?
One of the criticisms I have of a lot of my stuff is that the leads do run too long, but in this one I made an effort to not have anything run longer than 32 bars unless its changing a lot....I guess you're referring to the 303-sounding one that starts ~25 seconds in?
That instrument goes for 64 bars but the pattern changes like 5 times - I like in a lot of goa where a lead acts similarly to a bass-line in that stuff it stays somewhat solid while other stuff keeps getting thrown in on top of it, and that was what I was trying to emulate with the 303 lead
looking through my lead section, I have 14 lead tracks, I have 3 phrases that are longer than 32 bars (most being 16, 32).
as for the mix critique I will take another look at the percussion, I have some more 'typical' snare at the climax of the track but trying moreso for underlying background percussion on this track and less in your face offbeat snare action

i was meaning to the lead that starts at 0:27. it's running almost 2 minutes. even though it's changes it's tiring to me to hear it so much time.
i would get rid of it after the brake at 1:19.
i think you needs here more breaks. i like the lead that replace it at 2:12. this is crazy one!

Well, I really like it.
Only thing: The break with vocals (starts at 3:31) is a bit long for my personal taste.
But nice glitching on the vocals, good leads(could be more melodic ) and I also like the "subtle" drums/percussion
Cheers,

thanks! yeah the break is a bit long for a dancey situation I agree, initially it was much shorter but I was having so much fun glitching the vocal section up that I guess I just extended it...
MORE melodic? eheh I am trying to move more towards percussive leads but I can't seem to stop myself from writing call/response melodic-ish leads
