Dear friends,
Today we interview Cortex a.k.a Assaf Weizmann from Israel who has released two full length albums to his credit and has collaborated with other artists and has played in psytrance festivals across the world.
Cortex A.k.a Assaf Weizmann (26) from south of Israel has been toying with psychedelic music since the age of 15 and releases under many different labels. He has collaborated on various tracks along-side artists such as: Hux Flux / BrainBokka / Jaws Underground / Tribal / Safi Connection / Sidhartha / Toxical / Shake the Snake / Insane Logic / And some others that are currently in progress like Patchbay / Puzzle / and Remixes for G M S , Karan 3rd Eyes , Etnica , Juno Reactor . 1200 mics . Infected and Many more.
Assaf is a member in more two project with the names TEMPO SHRINE & AntiMatter with Brainbokka and shake the snake from Israel and Low Bpm Project with the name BLANX.
Assaf also works on the technical aspect of music and is the sound engineer in a post production studio in Israel.
1) Hi Assaf , tell us about yourself and when and how did you get involved in the psytrance scene?
Hello there , My first experience with psy trance music was 12 years ago in Israel when i was 14 years old.after I heard some psy goa sounds I decided to start to collect my own unreleased music collection.
2) What inspired you to make our own music and how did you go about releasing your first album?
My first inspiration was when I heard artists like Riktam & banzi GMS . Simon posford . Logic bomb and all of the old school djs . I decided that I wanted to make my own sounds with inspiration from the top psy underground team.
3)Your album “Spiritual Tonic” was released in 2010 . How has the response from listeners from?
People support and like it very much. I am constantly getting new comments and supportive feedback on the work of this album - Spiritual Tonic . It took me a total of 3 years to work on it.
4) From your discography, one can see you collaborate with various other artists .Do you have any specific reasons behind this ?
After I released my first album - Time for salvation - on 2007 which was a solo album and later about 10 different compilations, I decided to start collaborating with friends and more artists like Hux flux , Gms , Jaws underground , Brainbokka and more. The results were very amazing and I was able to make vs of different styles together .
5) Do you have any other side projects apart from Cortex?
Yes. I have 3 Vs Band

6)Tell us about the Israeli party scene?
The Israeli Party scene now I believe is the best it has ever been. Many large outdoor festivals- Trance events- word of mouth gatherings from the mountains in the far North to the Open Desert of the far South.
Also a huge increase in underground parties every weekend- as well as middle of the week indoor / outdoor.
This winter there were many wonderful planned parties and for the summer there will be even more .
The scene here now is more for more Retro style and sound, but also psytrance and tribal music are very popular .
7)What do you think about the future of psytrance?
For a Long time this has been a question with us- and we saw from the beginning until today that the psy trance scene is only getting better .The Trance music is about 20 years in progress and I think it will continue to flourish, and only become a stronger culture of sounds.
8)Please share your favourite psytrance moments with our listeners.
For me to see the Vibes that the people bring into the psy trance parties is what I admire…and keep the energy high. It is not a matter if there are 500 people or 2,000 . It’s something that is noticeable the second the set is about to go on. I feed off of the creativity and happiness of the dancers and listeners.
