sequential circuits synth ?!?!?!! cool :-) anyway, this is a waste of sound quality. i won't help u with fruity [don't know it] i also hope vibra128 is full duplex [i doubt]
1) connections: audio:u connect audio out of synth to line in of the card. midi: gameport - to midi in of the synth. [the plugs must fit]
2) audio recording:
i know how it works in cubase.it should be the same pronciple. you must create an audio track. then u must set your sound card to record from line in ONLY. then you must select in fruity somehow that it should record the sample live ... i'm sure it's in the help file under "recording audio" or something. and then you simply jam with the synth. but with your sound card, i doubt it is possible. i think the best and the safest thing is: to record the base track on MD/DAT/CDRW or other digital media player and listen to it via headphones[to get the rythm] if it's MD - you can record loop and play it in loop mode.
during this, to record what you play into the soundblaster, with some audio editor. and then to edit it and insert in the fruity track.
3) now to the midi stuff: i am not a pro with fruity, but generally, u need to choose a midi in device - the soundblaster's midi in, then u need to enable it. and then you can play with the keyboard [if the synth has it] in to the tracks of fruity.
P.S. if you wanna save money bla bla at least get SBlive - it's about 260 shek, and it has good full duplex, multiple clients [a few programs using the sound card simultaneously] i mean ... miss 3-4 parties, and u got sblive :-) and it has a far better sound than vibra... i've burnt my vibra with a guitar :-)))

ok - i got most of your explaination but few things i didnt get: 1. how EXACTLY i record into my soundcard?? does it meen i need to look at my sound card settings or where??(i do know how to record in the fruity though...). 2. what is full duplex??
about the SBlive - yes, i know, and its gonna be done soon.. i just fixed all the cables yesterday night and dying to use some real synth sounds... |

1) yes every sound card has a software mixer. in creative they do this too and you need to use this "system mixer" and to check in the recording view that it records from "line in"
2) full duplex ... is a capability of sound card to play back currently recorded stream... say you put a mic, and talk, and press record... so not with every card you'll hear what you say/or will record it ... there's also a "half duplex" i don't remember what it was ... it was long ago.

Seriously try to get hold of Fruity 3. The live record function in 2 doesn't work with synths, but as far as I know, (and this is only second hand knowledge cuz I can't afford a synth) in fruity 3 you just plug in your synth, hit the live record button and play your synth and away you go. I may be mistaken though, I'll talk to a friend of mine who does have his synth connected up to fruity and see what he has to say about it. Even if the live record function doesn't work, get fruity 3, it is a major step up from 2. It now has a built in apreggiator, also it got a vst wrapper, so any softsynth plugs that you have but couldn't use before, you can wrap them into fruity loops and mess around. Oh and one more thing, the piano role has gone polyphonic. Definately worth checking out. |

As far as i know, you can't record audio from your synth using fruity loops 2 or 3. As Bilbo said, you would need a program like Cubase, Logic audio or cakewalk in order to record audio. |

I assume that FL can use .wav files, so you can just record your synth's sounds to a .wav file and use it in FL. Just be sure that when you record, use the note C (I think) so that the scale of your track won't get messed up. I mean sometimes the problem with samples is that you want to play a D or something and it actually plays a C#.

As far as my knowledge goes I thing that in fruity 2/3 you can record only MIDI and thats all...
Try Cubase VST 5, great filters/plug-ins and many options that will blow your sound...
Don't expect to hear a good quality with you VIBRA sound-card..:) |

setting up midi in fruity loops 3 (i prefer the latest version 3.1.1) is very simple.
options MIDI Settings Remot control input -> set your card
then go again options and click on "enable MIDI remote control"
thats it!
make sure to config your latency time correclty! you can do this in options - wave settings - buffer lengh. the shorter the better.
cheers pj |

My apologies, I was wrong about the midi, I sorta got confused. the friend who was recording directl into fruity apparently uses and old 303, he reckons you recod directly with that, but it don't use midi, just the line in of his normal sound card, so I wuz wrong.
Are there any major differences between 3.0.1 and 3.11? Or is it mostly just bug fixes?
Damien. |
