i will tell you, many people have experienced this, and that is because it´s a pattern based soft studio, you will have to have some advance planning,

lets say you start at one pattern and make a kick, baseline, and build some percussion loops

when you feel that it sounds ok, copy the kick&baseline&different percussion hits to their own channels/patterns...

(i have as a rule to have everything on it´s own channel for easy modification and of-coruse for the FX)

now keep the first pattern as your sketch pattern, you can try out different sounds in that pattern, running along with everything else, now when you are done, do the same procedure, copy to it´s own Pattern/channel...

there are so many different ways to work, you could use a drumsampler like Dr008 and assign different drum hits to different keys and only work your drums in the pianoroll, now you will have a sequence almost like any other tradtional sequencer... this will make the flow much better..

what i would suggest for you is to try another form of Host/sequencer, like, Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Samplitude or the likes... i promise you that once you got your head around it the work flow will be much better...

but still you should use Frutiyloops as a sketch box, either rewire or use as a vsti or export audio to the sequencer and arrange there...

if you are not so keen on trying another app for sequencing you could always work with everything in the fruityloops pianoroll and make long evolving patterns...

basicly keep stuff in your mind for a longer period of time, think ahead... dont just make loops, use the patterns as single channels..

There are so many different styles to work you just have to find your own

Good luck!

yoshie i too experienced the same thing many times and at times i also just cant think beyond a certain point or certain sounds !!

but i think i found a workaround 4 this also ...

there are 2 wayz to biuld a trk and ill discuss both ...

the first way is ur where u build a basic groove for lets say 4 bars in pattern 1 and then keep on adding instruments and keep kinda making ur trk just in pattern 1 by muting / unmuting channels ...

and when ure done with many parts , u then srat araning in the playlist ...

i was doing this 4 a long time but was never happy with this ...

second technique was told to me by my frnd PIXEL and is much better ... try this out ...

make a bsic kick , bassline and hi hat pattern and imediately copy them in the playlist and then play the playlist and imagine as if the trk is going on and try to figure out what part could come next with what sound ???

this way ur work flow will be much better and always better to sequence 8 bars @ a time ...

dont move forward until ure satisifed with the 8 bars ... this will take more time , but ull end up with a more better trk !!

hope i helped ..
