imho fruity loops is yet another example that anybody can hide a really shitty sound under a nice GUI. ok, i tried FL3.0: the interface is perfect, easy to learn and fast, but...
1) sounds of fruity go through some unknown filters during the mixdown in such a way that the result is MP3-like - as if some little dwarf took really high and deeply low frequencies off. this sucks. any disagreements ?
2) the _hidden_ effects.... don't know how and where, but by default the mixers compress the levels, so it's very difficult to both EQ and Level the mixdown. the result: unpredictable compressed sound. note: i don't know how to turn these fx off.. does anybody know ?
example: take a sample of deep bassline recorded with wavelab @ 24/96 (preferrably of a real synth, or soft non-FL synth, pulsar tb.. whatever) or a nice sqweaks in UHF and play it in wavelab. listen well. then load as a sample and play it in fruity's sampler.... feel the difference.
3) strange design bugs .. don't want to mention - just go to the FL users forums: parts disapear, playback stuck etc. who doesn't have bugs ? non critical.
i think in the root of the problem is mp3: they wanted to make you creating music for mp3, and not for CDs, so it will sound the same thing when u encode it.
yes, some people do make their music with FL. but in the mastering stage they all convert the audio channels into long wave samples and mix them down in the studio with cubase or logic. hope i won't be the guy ;) to convert these files.
but like Dennis Miller says: "I could be wrong...."

Hey bilbo dude...:) About that filter thing...I found a good idea on how to get that fix: - Try to export to *.wav and then open your file in Sound forge...Try to add the missing high frequencies...!

Talking about Level lowering... my EXS24 does the same :( taking about -3dB off to every sample .. Shit knows why!
anyone here - using EXS24 at all? (I know it's a thread about fruity don't get mad)

philip, have you played with the output level ?
it is not in 0 db by default, u'll need to save the default preset with 0 db in the level...

fruity loops doesn't completely suck...
but when i switched to reason i realized a freedom i was missing with fruity loops. the structure in fruity loops is less flexible than most other forms of music creation.
personally, it effects the way i write music, in turn effecting the way my music sounds.
...also, you have to go through a bunch of shit to make drum rolls/kick builds.
ps anyone who discusses fruity loops is lame. it's been done too many times. end the war on terrorism. what the? |

heheheh.. this is the funniest thread there is, MOST PEOPLE (about 90 - 99% of Audio engineers / acts) will say fruityloops is good for drumloops, and its audio quality sucks, etc etc etc... I'll tell you this, I'm working with it for 3 years, all of my investments were based on "Fruity Needs & Improvments" -> Strong cpu, nice amount of Ram, (256DDR), Phatboy Analog midi controller, etc... DONT BELIEVE ANYONE, I can assure you this from feedbacks I've had on my music, THERE IS NOT A THING YOU LOGIC/CUBASE NERDS OUT THERE CAN DO THAT I CANT DO IN FRUITYLOOPS (WITH MY STORNG COMPUTER AND ABOUT 5000 PLUGINS AT THE SAME TIME) And those who complain about flexibilty issues - Bend over and you'll see how flexible you can get with fruityloops. Peace and sorry for the harsh language. I havn't washed my mouth with soap for quite a while now.
