hey Kahn,
maybe you should book some local artists/dj's from the LA scene that people on this forum know and love... then more people will be excited for your event and say meaningless things to bump the thread to the top. ideas for DJs/artists to book:
Konflux
Spyros
Pangaea
Kiva
Bamba
psy circle- Arahat, Bodhi, Limbre Timbre, Dropzone
me
Scenator (haven't seen him play since halloween and it ruled)
and many many others!
just a suggestion. |

My impression is that Kahn trying to give the stage to some new talents coming up in the L.A. horizon.
I personally think it is a great idea (nothing against the more established dj members of the community) |

it's the first one maybe he is going too. (book others) in the future if people can keep it going. don't know just guessing. people should be exicited and come out and support without those people booked. I think (once again, don't know) that this is the whole point. and to bring some people from other "scenes" together because of GOOD music. I've never heard ANY of them play and I checked them out and I can say that I'm looking forward to hearing and meeting some new peeps.
the outdoor the same never heard of Openmind check it out and I dug it.
@kahn a side note.......the links on both pages are messed up because the comma's and ) got added to the link. didn't stop me but may others from checking out the pages we're stoned and lazy drunk and smunked at times you know lol |

Psyman hit the nail right on the head.
The two "residents" throwing this event are myself and St. Black. St. Black and I have played at the outdoor XTRNL (multi-genre) gatherings for awhile together, and have a pretty good following in that crowd. St. Black plays deep dark progressive and techno. And of course I play mostly Full-On. Though lately I have been starting my sets a bit into the progressive range, and working my way up. So actually, the idea here is to bring in some music outside of the normal confines of Psytrance gatherings (while still featuring AT LEAST half psytrance each time), that will still fit the mood, vibes, and make the people happy.
Of course that is not to say I'm abandoning psytrance at all; quite the contrary. There will be 4 DJ's playing each time, 2 of which (at least) will be playing Psytrance, 2 will be playing something slower... usually progressive, techno, trance, electro, or something along those lines.
And yeah I have been talking to many of the people in the established Psy scene around here, and getting people on board for future PULSARs. I of course welcome anybody else who would like to talk to me, and be added to my list of future potential DJ's.
If you noticed, I did post a thread here a couple of weeks ago telling everybody here on Isratrance that I am starting up a regular in OC, and that I was looking for DJ's who would like to play at the event. I would like to point out that Tom/Boomslang was the ONLY PERSON on this forum who had anything to say to me on this. If those DJ's you listed (Dog of tears) are interested in playing, they should send me a message. Communication is the key, and I'm a damn responsive, professional, and friendly guy!
I'm more than happy to include DJ's from ALL OVER the scene. That is going to include established psy scene DJ's, as well as DJ's from other branches of the scene. The idea will be to keep the music tasteful for the crowd, regardless of who is playing.
So at each gathering, the 2 rotating DJ spots should be completely different than the last event. This should give equal change for up and coming DJ's, as well as those established DJ's to come and play a timeslot that best fits. In other words, I want to include everybody on this, no exclusions... and that includes people in and outside of the psy scene.
And not to toot my horn or anything, but I think I've been establishing myself quite nicely over the last couple of years, in and out of the psy scene. It would be sweet to see some true support from the psytrancers on this. I am definitely inclined to keep the lineups entertaining for the regulars who show up to these things. If I am seeing nearly all psytrancers, and they want more psy, that's what I'm going to give them.

Personally i haven't met you in real life. Please introduce yrself to me at the next gathering.
As far as DJ's personally reaching out to you graciously asking to play, most of those I mentioned never have to do that for local gigs, why should they have to start now? Promoters should be well-informed enough about the scene to know who to ask for bookings.

As I said, I actually made a POST HERE ON THE FORUM, ASKING DJ'S TO MESSAGE ME IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO PLAY. I was actually the one graciously reaching out, and asking DJ's to let me know if they were down to play. This is a small scale, regularly scheduled event, and so the need for DJ's/talent will be ongoing. I'd like to include new people, in addition to the old faces. If nobody ever makes a post like this on behalf of an organizer, then it can really make the scene feel closed off to anybody who is new and not part of the "in crowd." If anything, I think this is something really nice that an organizer (especially a new organizer) can do to present an "open door" to people who may be interested in becoming involved. Rather than creating some exclusive club where I only ask the people who I deem to be "cool" I've made it known in the community that I am actively looking for participants. The Psy Weekly also did this in their thread, and I don't see anything wrong with this. In fact, I think it would be nice if more organizers presented this kind of "open door" policy to encourage new as well as established talent. You mention that most of those on your list don't have to promote themselves, or tell organizers that they are actively looking for gigs. But that's because most of the psy gatherings around here have been thrown by the same people for years and years, and they all know each other. I do know a good majority of the people you listed on there personally, and I had actually talked to some of them before all of these posts. Do not be offended just because I booked people who you have never heard of, and didn't book the people who you already know (and have probably seen play many times). As an active participant in this scene, you should be happy to see new and upcoming talent. Without the new talent, the art will die. And just because you do not see people you know on there now, does not mean that you will not sometime in the future.
In the meantime, why not come out and support some of the new talent?
As I said, I have talked to people who you are familiar with in the scene, just through different mediums than here on Isra.

Please let's not fight over this... Other threads are juicier for that.
Dog of Tears have a point in that that the local more established dj's will not approach you to play at a weekly, so if you want them to play, the situation dictates you as an organizer to approach them... It is just the way it works. I am not saying it is god or bad just the way it is.
Anyway Kahn I think it is great that new talent is performing, it is always fun to hear new styles, creation, and innovation. And who knows maybe a couple of those new dj guys will start composing their own kick ass music in a year or two.
And that my friends is how we grow the scene in a positive way from a music pint of view. And that in my book is worth supporting.
And Kahn I actually think it would be a grand idea if you do invite Dog of Tears to play at one of those weekleys thing, very interesting music he has.

Yes definitely, I am in complete agreement with you Psyman!
Yeah no need for fighting. More or less, I'm just stating the policy and intent clearly so that this isn't going to get misconstrued or turned into something that this isn't. In other words, these gatherings are only meant to spread positivity and bring people together. And yes as mentioned, nobody is excluded... I'd like if everybody could feel like they have a part in this... a true communal effort.
Also, stay tuned for some Woodley Park action coming up soon! Details T.B.A.!
