WHAT TO EXPECT:
Expect a night full of some of the world's most cutting edge electronic dance music. Your ears will be guided by some of the most dedicated professionals in the Southern California electronic music and dance scene. These individuals have been hand selected for their tireless efforts in bringing the most modern electric sounds from around the globe to the Southern California Electronic Music and Dance scene; and now to YOUR ears, for your aural enjoyment!
The goal of PULSAR is to regularly bring together an eclectic mix of different, yet equally modern electronic dance music styles, into a united environment where many styles can be discovered, thrive, and be appreciated. In each edition of PULSAR, one can expect new and exciting sets from PULSAR residents; along with rotating guest DJ spots from the most promising up and coming, as well as long established DJ's in the scene.
To open the night, Pulsar resident/organizer ST BLACK will start us off with his signature style of PROGRESSIVE TECHNO with DARK, TRANCE influences, and emotional overtones. Next, Nick will hand off to fellow Pulsar resident/organizer, KAHN. KAHN will begin with PROGRESSIVE sounds, and gradually bring the energy up with faster progressive, moving into PROGRESSIVE PSYTRANCE, and ending with a bit of FULL-ON. Next up, Pulsar is very happy to welcome two legends from the northern California Psychedelic music scene: Michael Liu and Sausee. Michael Liu, known to many as the founder of Pisces music, is one of the leaders of the northern California psychedelic music scene. He has played countless gigs all over California, and continues to organize conscious gatherings on a regular basis. Sausee, founder of Galaxy Unknown Records, has been a DJ for about 18 years! As one of the most demanded DJs in the northern California psychedelic trance scene, he has played countless gigs, and is constantly in demand. Sausee, having been through many eras of electronic music keeps his musical catalog broad, and has even been known to branch out to other styles of electronic music. Believe it or not, this will be Sausee's first time playing in southern California! In this special set, Michael Liu and Sausee will play a tag team set encompassing their interpretation of modern PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE sound! For the final set of the night, Pulsar is happy to welcome back a favorite of many, WICHDOKTA; also from northern California! Rich is well known as one of the pioneering members of the Northern California psychedelic music scene. He started DJing in 1996, and formed the FULL CIRCLE COLLECTIVE. In 1997 he began organizing his famous yearly gathering, GEMINI Festival along the majestic Eel River! Over the years, GEMINI touched thousands of trance fans worldwide, and brought many DJ's and producers from all over the United States, as well as international acts. In 2000, Rich met up with Dr. Spook (founder of record label Geomagnetic.tv), and they formed the PHOENIX FAMILY COLLECTIVE. Rich is well known and loved throughout the Northern California trance community for his unique high energy DJ sets, vibrant passion, and his highly demanded sound company, Full Circle Productions. Rich will play us a set of his signature HIGH ENERGY TWISTED PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE. Coupled with his warm passionate stage energy, he is certain to entertain!
As the hour draws later, the energy will continue to build well through closing, leaving dancers wondering when the next PULSAR will be held!
Because we are hosting so many DJs from northern California, this Pulsar will be coined the "NORTHERN CALIFORNIA INVASION!!!" Pulsar. All three guest DJs are mainstays on Michael Liu's long standing PISCES gathering. We are happy to extend the Pisces celebration down south to give southern Californians a taste of northern California's unique vibe and energy!
So we hope you will join us for PULSAR V.15! You will be TRULY happy that you did!
And on behalf of the PULSAR team, we would like to thank each and every person who made it out to any or all of the Pulsar events we have held so far; making all of them such unforgettable nights! These events have been filled with positive energy, love, support, amazingly friendly vibes, and have certainly bestowed a purpose on the PULSAR organizers to continue organizing these events for the sake of the dancers! You all make this possible, and we wouldn't be able to do this without your support! We do this for you, the electronic dance community!
We would also like to send a special thank you to STUBBY'S BAR for hosting Pulsar during our first year. None of us will forget all the awesome times we have had there, and the owners and staff of Stubby's bar will always have our gratitude and support. As time progresses, new opportunities present themselves. We now have the opportunity to try a new venue. This Pulsar will be held at a new location nearby to Stubby's, but a bit closer to Los Angeles. This will be a trial run for the new location, and of course we welcome feedback from all attendees and organizers alike!
ART/VISUALS:
At PULSAR we strive to create a fun, comfortable, energetic, and psychedelic environment for our dancers/patrons. With our limited pool of personal resources, we have a small collection of lights/black lights, wall hangings, and other miscellaneous pieces of decor. This is of course in addition to all of the sound equipment we are already bringing. We are always making an effort to enhance the visual experience of our PULSAR events, such that they only improve as time progresses. A large chunk of any donations we receive go towards Art/Visuals.
Of course we are well aware that in our community there are many artists, and others just waiting to express their hidden talents. That is why, in an effort to help the local art community, as well as to enhance the vibes of our already fantastic PULSAR events, we welcome artists professional, casual, or anything in between, who would like to contribute to the visual appeal of our events, and put their work out on display. Of course you are responsible for your artwork. I cannot guarantee the safety of your art pieces due to obvious circumstances created between dancers, beverages, and everything else. I am willing to work with you, to figure out the correct placement, or any other details to make this work better for you. In addition, if you get in touch with me far enough ahead of time, I would be glad to include your art exhibit on the flier!
And of course non-artists, if you have any pieces of decor or lighting, especially psychedelic decor that is black light reactive, such as tapestries, posters, statues, incense burners, or anything else, we would love for you to bring it to add the the collective ambiance of the room. "A PULSAR (portmanteau of pulsating star) is a highly magnetized, rotating Neutron Star that emits a beam of Electromagnetic Radiation. This radiation can only be observed when the beam of emission is pointing towards the Earth, much the way a lighthouse can only be seen when the light is pointed in the direction of an observer, and is responsible for the pulsed appearance of emission. Neutron Stars are very Dense, and have short, regular rotational periods. This produces a very precise interval, between pulses that range from roughly milliseconds to seconds for an individual pulsar.
The precise periods of pulsars makes them useful tools. Observations of a pulsar in a binary neutron star system were used to confirm the existence of Gravitational Radiation.
