PULSAR is proud to present a new evolution in the PULSAR brand of events. We have enjoyed over a year of consistent, small scale, nearly monthly events featuring some of the best and brightest musicians in the California electronic music and dance scene. As we evolve as an organization, we recognize the need to expand beyond the usual format that our guests have come to expect. At the same time, we also recognize that a certain amount of consistency is desired, if not required to develop the intimate and consistent relationship we desire to have with the dance music scene. As a result, we at PULSAR have decided to begin another journey that will compliment, and draw contrast with our existing events; allowing us to branch out further, while at the same time remaining true to our original intentions, goals, and musical vibe. In this way we hope that this new series will not only appeal to our existing fans, but also bring in others who have not had the pleasure to share a night at Pulsar yet.
This past October we took our first journey on this new path with PULSAR PROGRESSIONS Vol.1; an exciting and successful night of amazing progressive dance music. Now we are happy to present the second edition of this new series of events...

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Expect a night full of some of the world's most cutting edge electronic dance music. Your ears will be guided by some of the most dedicated professionals in the Southern California electronic music and dance scene. These individuals have been hand selected for their tireless efforts in bringing the most modern electric sounds from around the globe to the Southern California Electronic Music and Dance scene; and now to YOUR ears, for your aural enjoyment!
The goal of PULSAR is to regularly bring together an eclectic mix of different, yet equally modern electronic dance music styles, into a united environment where many styles can be discovered, thrive, and be appreciated. In each edition of PULSAR, one can expect new and exciting sets from PULSAR residents; along with rotating guest DJ spots from the most promising up and coming, as well as long established DJ's in the scene.
PULSAR PROGRESSIONS takes us on a new and intelligent musical journey, focusing in on all forms of PROGRESSIVE electronic dance music. In recent years, many genres including: Techno, House, Trance, and Psychedelic Trance have begun to converge towards similar sounds and atmospheres. The trend has been a trip "back to the source," to music reminiscent of the original Techno, House, and Trance music to grace dance floors around the globe. In many parts of the world, this music is now collectively referred to as "PROG" or PROGRESSIVE. As the lines that separate Techno, House, Trance, and Psytrance are continually blurred, these umbrella terms have come to signify music that combines elements of all of these genres in new and intelligent ways. The trend has been towards deep and mature progressive music that isn't afraid to experiment and combine different musical influences. Here at PULSAR, we are choosing to embrace this fusion of genres taking place right now. PULSAR PROGRESSIONS will bring you an assortment of different sounds, spanning many genres and energy levels, all within the "umbrella" of PROGRESSIVE electronic dance music.
On this night we will be celebrating the birthday of one of the Pulsar team members, Hanz Dwight!!!
To open the second edition of PULSAR PROGRESSIONS, we are happy to welcome SYNCHRONOMETRY. Bruce, a newcomer to the Pulsar roster, is a resident of the local music collective, ElectriCocoon. Bruce will take us on a journey with a set of SMOOTH PROGRESSSIVE, TECHNO, and MINIMAL grooves; perfect to start the night off! Next, we are happy to welcome back DAYV, who has played at several of our past PULSAR events, and is also a resident with the Los Angeles based music collective, Viva La Tech. David has released several tracks on digital labels, and has many more on the way! On this night, he will take us on a trip through our own minds with his signature blend of TECHNO, PROGRESSIVE, MINIMAL, and PSYCHEDELIC beats to get the feet moving! Taking the reigns, PULSAR resident/organizer ST BLACK will move the groove along with his characteristic style of serious, deep PROGRESSIVE TECHNO, with TRANCEY and MELODIC overtones. As we reach peak dance hour, PULSAR is very excited to welcome a true legend of the southern California electronic dance music scene, a veteran who has experienced nearly every side of the underground, as well as mainstream attention, and a hero to many around the world; THEE-O. Jacob, who has been a DJ for nearly 20 years, should be well known to anybody who has attended dance music events in southern California. Over the years he has played in over 30 states, and over 75 cities, all while remaining a mainstay in the southern California scene. He has played many styles over the years, and most recently has been releasing originally produced music. In fact, DayV is also a member of Thee-O's very own label, Viva La Tech. They have released several tracks together already, and have many more on the way. Having undergone many musical evolutions, Jacob has many musical styles which he could share with us. On this night he will be playing a set of TECHNO, HOUSE, and PROGRESSIVE grooves, the sound which he has been most famous for in recent years. As the night draws later, PULSAR resident HANZ DWIGHT will take the decks! We will also be celebrating Hanz's birthday, so this will be an extra special set! Hanz will take the energy and tempo up a bit with a set of PROGRESSIVE, TECHNO, and PROGRESSIVE PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE. And to finish off the night, PULSAR resident/organizer KAHN will play a closing set, starting where Hanz leaves off bringing the energy gradually upwards with PROGRESSIVE PSYCHEDELIC TRANCE, leaving us with some PROGRESSIVE FULL-ON grooves for the diehards who stick around til the end! As the night goes on, the energy will continue to build well through closing, leaving dancers wondering when the next PULSAR PROGRESSIONS will be held.
So we hope you will join us for PULSAR PROGRESSIONS Vol.2! You will be TRULY happy that you did!
ART/VISUALS:
At PULSAR we strive to create a fun, comfortable, energetic, and psychedelic environment for our dancers/patrons. With our limited pool of personal resources, we have a small collection of lights/black lights, wall hangings, and other miscellaneous pieces of decor. This is of course in addition to all of the sound equipment we are already bringing. We are always making an effort to enhance the visual experience of our PULSAR events, such that they only improve as time progresses. A large chunk of any donations we receive go towards Art/Visuals.
Of course we are well aware that in our community there are many artists, and others just waiting to express their hidden talents. That is why, in an effort to help the local art community, as well as to enhance the vibes of our already fantastic PULSAR events, we welcome artists professional, casual, or anything in between, who would like to contribute to the visual appeal of our events, and put their work out on display. Of course you are responsible for your artwork. I cannot guarantee the safety of your art pieces due to obvious circumstances created between dancers, beverages, and everything else. I am willing to work with you, to figure out the correct placement, or any other details to make this work better for you. In addition, if you get in touch with me far enough ahead of time, I would be glad to include your art exhibit on the flier!
And of course non-artists, if you have any pieces of decor or lighting, especially psychedelic decor that is black light reactive, such as tapestries, posters, statues, incense burners, or anything else, we would love for you to bring it to add the the collective ambiance of the room. "A PULSAR (portmanteau of pulsating star) is a highly magnetized, rotating Neutron Star that emits a beam of Electromagnetic Radiation. This radiation can only be observed when the beam of emission is pointing towards the Earth, much the way a lighthouse can only be seen when the light is pointed in the direction of an observer, and is responsible for the pulsed appearance of emission.
