Possibly helpful for beginners that are recording a band, but not for psy. (imo)

All EQ "rules" change when you're dealing with really diverse, unrealistic sounds and using a much wider amount of the spectrum. I don't think I would ever roll off a kick at 300hz if it sounded muddy, and I definitely wouldn't boost a snare at 60hz.

You don't need a guide to EQing if you have ears and some patience.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

wow great Tuetrax!,
an example of the EQ-curve of each instrument would be really nice (if you want that to be a guide), because beginner wont know how it should look like, and maybe ending with messing around with a +10 db kick in the low range^^           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

Dont try to match the word eq with the frequency range, it confuses you
An EQ curve contains dynamics, whereas the frequency response has no dynamics,, till you or someone else touch/play the instrument, the frequency range remains the same no matter if you have sound or not

A quick search i found on the first link below the table with the freq. range of most usual instruments and voice
and on the second table is the "sweet" spots of some sounds, have in mind these are not exactly the ones, but around there. Its a good thing to clarify their place in the mix.
hope that helps

i wanted to add that frequency range in self constructing sounds like leads or fx's for example that are used in electronic music, you define the frequency range for your sounds since you make them with a synthesizer and according to the filtering of the sound you have that specific frequency range, timbre etc
