Hi dudes...
I´m having some problems to equalize my tracks...
I don´t know how to distribute the frequencies in the sounds.
I usually make my bass in low freq, my synths e fx in diferent mid freq and my drums in mid-high freq. Is there some "rule" fot that, or some tips ? I know that it depends to my sound and my style, but tips are welcome !
Thanks !

Here's some more info, including some 'magic frequencies' to which you have to pay extra attention. I think the "rule" is: don't give up and work hard.

I'll add some simple points (if i'm wrong - please correct me!)

Bass : 150-250 hz (+-50hz) + small boost at around 500 hz (+-50hz)

Kick : under tha bass, 50-80hz (+-10hz) + small boost at around 500 (not where tha bass is)

Leads : 800-1300hz (+-200hz)

Boosting freq's down gives you great results: sometimes better to reduce those u don't want, instead of boosting up those u do - for example notch down the lead at 800hz and at 2khz an compress it.

Sure using your ears is important and of course there are no rules you can't break. All that "Natural sound" crap is absurd in electronic music, it is just the most common soundscape, which we are used to.

l"ife style" dont take everything for granted...
for example:
My kick sit between 100hz to 200hz while my bass is around 50 to 80 hz.. ofcourse that both kick and bass contain more frequencies and it all depands on the pitch of the bass and the sound YOU desire..

No rules in there.
Just add one sound on top of another, and eq each one seperately so both will sound ok. Slowly but surely your mix will sound good.

be carefull with boosting around 500.... remember 400 considered to be as most holding mud...           ill push u over the edge, and will be smiling when u cant take anymore, at that point ill push a little harder till u experience true psychdelica

Mike means :
start with a sound, lets say ... ...a synth patch you want to use, listen to it while boosting freqs up and down, look at its FFT and reduce the unwanted (by YOU) freqs; move to another part, lets say one more lead - now you are EQing it to fit the first one, boosting it higher or lower (as YOU want)...move on to bass, kick, percussion, hihats, all of them related one to another ...

I found that best to start with the part you wanna dominate the track with and build around it,but again there might be a better way that ppl keep top secret.

P.S. Is there an ultimate starting part (why?) or one u can explain why not starting with ?

I think for dance music, a clear area for kick and bass is very important.

The other stuff can varity.            Signature

Top-down: i read somewhere that most mixing-engineers start mixing on the busiest part of a track with all the faders up and move stuff around from left to right and then start eq-ing to fix clashing sounds. This way they make every sound work together. The ultimate starting point for a good mix should be the composition and the arrangement i guess

less than 80 hz .. dont use .. PA dont read it lol ..

bass .. is not only LOW FREQ .. per EX u can give a peak in 160 .. 200 hz .. and u slo down near 500 hz .. and then u give tiny touch up near 1300hz . just to give more medium ... attention.. it depend to on the kick ... for a track goes plenty fine .. the bass need to dance fine into the kick .. like making love .. they need to be in armony .. one make NE the ourher make EN ..they need to play together without conflictuing freq .. because if that happns things stay or to loud .. or to bassy etc etc ...

my opinion to u .. start to read about armonic .. and spreading freq .. its nice stuff to learn .. u get some nice tricks and u'll learn nice things

i've learned some really good stuff with things at the biggining i just say .. naaaaaaa thats is to bory to me .. now im very happy of having time to read that and learn .. my music change a lot since last year .. BUT PLENTY A LOT

hope u make the same
