1. Brazil (Brush Mix) (8:25)
2. Space Noodle (6:44)
3. Silent Circuits (10:05)
4. Byte Me (7:50)
5. Stone Shaker (9:52)
6. Beatstreet (8:27)
7. What A Feeling? (6:38)
8. Singularity Part II (4:39)
9. Aisha (6:34)
Overall a very progressive album, pretty easy listening with the exception of a few darker tracks. Let's break them down:
Brazil (Brush Mix) - Nice spacey intro with a few fitting vocals. Great synth throughout, very reminiscent of a Wizzy Noise track. This is one of the more chill tracks on the CD, but still very enjoyable.
Space Noodle - Good hard bassline in this track, from start to finish. The synth almost reminds me of something from SFX, clean but still spacey. Gets a little repetative but not a bad track all in all.
Silent Circuts - Awesome track, gets off to a quick start with a nice melodic tone. A few vocal samples thrown here and there, makes for a nice ambient echo sound. Rad breakdown about halfway through accompanied by excellent synth. A+ track.
Byte Me - Starts off with some good ambient sound, transitioning into a good solid baseline accompanied with some pretty cool digitized vocal samples. Very proggy sounding, almost Sasha-esque. Not particularly my favorite but a solid track nonetheless.
Stone Shaker - YES! Great synth heavy intro with a kinda dark flavor, almost epic. This track is a little bit faster than the others, holds a great structure and melody and has great breakdowns accompanied with some trip/dance vocals. Another A+ track.
Beatstreet - Good intro as usual with a nice heavy bassline. Overall more of an almost retro sound combined with a bit of psy to make it just trippy enough. Not a big fan of the breakdowns in this track, but it's not really my cup of tea.
What A Feeling? - Pretty smooth intro, takes a little time to get going into the light breakdowns. This is where the track shines, good female vocals with a nice solid but chill beat. Overall nice and trancy with a hint of uplifting-ness, the name is very fitting.
Singularity Part II - Cool ambient intro, very Cosmic Tone like. This is deinfately one of the more chill tracks, no breakdowns, just a slow build ontop of the existing beat. My only gripe is that it's fairly short and seems like it could've gone longer.
Aisha - Super chillout track, great snippets of vocals in and out. Not much else to say, pretty slow but very enjoyable, great background music for a chillum session.
Afterthoughts - I've always been into the more aggressive stuff out there but this is enough to convert me back Like I said earlier, very progressive but still with that edge of psy, I'd imagine John '00' will be picking up on this soon if he hasn't already. Definately reccomend this to any prog-heads and anyone looking for some easy listening psy.
Choice tracks - 3, 5, and 9 |

Glad to see someone had the guts to review this album.
#5 "Stone shaker" is a euphemism for earthquake : or the shatering of an illusion. Azza, man!!! what da f....?!? What happend to you? "A redback on your toilet seat...." must have bit you on the wrong spot! Is it the same man that composed "Short life again", "Suzuki sun", to name but a few ?
Even the "space needle" edit on Iono is preferable to the above mentionned "space noodle".
Sigh.... |

Definitely a quality-release, but I don't think it lives entirely up to FREq's last album "Strange Attractors", which by the way is very hard to do I've only taken a few listens to it since I got it so maybe I just need to get more into it. A good and well-produced release thats worth a listen imo. Verdict: 7/10 |

Just one thing.
Track 2 and track 7 are the same track!!! Same key - same bassline - err yeah, its the same. Its not just me is it?
AND both are the same as the freq track on the Iono comp out recently ???? Three slightly different mixes of the same thing !!!! Track 2 - Space Noodle - Track 7 what a feeling (with addition of girly vocal) and the track Space Needle from the Iono comp ....
Not to mention that there is ANOTHER MIX of track 1 on the recent Summer Collection v/a - SO two versions of that track as well - which are identical, apart from the arrangement.
Would have been nice to get some different stuff instead of the duplicates ..... ah well.
Top album anyway.

FREq- Brazil (brush mix)
Unfortunately this album starts with a disappointment: overused sample from the movies equilibrium; already used by Astrix and Echotek. Ok we got it "emotions chaos" but come on… this track is really nothing special. The turner 05 mix is a masterpiece, very strong and uplifting. Brush mix is boring and pale.
--------------------------------------------
FREq – space noodle
Disappointment number 2. Another version to previously released track. Space needle the (original) is a pure art and one of my favorites by freq. space noodle is (like in the first - the main elements were brushed away) boring version of a gr8 track.
---------------------------------------------
FREq - Silent Circuits
From this point I can say that the album starts: what a track!!! I remember, that when I heard it at the first time live in Tel Aviv - (comfort club – Big and Danko Prod) I completely lost my mind. My beck parts of my head almost melt down. When a track gives you that feeling, there no need in words: the part that can melt your neck starts at:
6:25!!!
After this psygazmic sounds, all floats. Last Time I felt like that was after I heard Infected mushroom - wider and Spirallianz - battlejuice
---------------------------------------------------------
FREq – Byte me
Very nice an atmospheric into of 1;30 minutes long, and than the hoarsey bass line comes in and takes you with it.
Ths passages in this track hit you from nowhere. I couldn’t stay still, could you? How he does it again and again every time?
Including deep vocal sample in the end to warm the last seconds.
---------------------------------------------
FREq – stone shaker
The answer to chicane shaker - by Ticon. No, just kidding.
The track opens with a beautiful melody that gives you a taste of things to come. Strong bass, few liquid sounds and a female (Beccy) vocal that was dun is a smart way and not cheesy at all. I repeats itself couple of times and create an intonation that you can loose yourself in - exelant!!!
I don’t know what the vocal says. It doesn’t really matter; it's better in that way!
In the end of the 7th minute the melody from the beginning comes back for a sec and leads you to the end of the track.
---------------------------------------------
FREq – beatstreet
No a very impressive track. It has some strange hiccups and not really interesting accords, average. Nice track but regular- not an attention catcher
--------------------------------------
FREq – what a feeling
Okay. What's going on? It has the same bass line as space noodle. What a feeling? Not a feeling at all. Nice sounds, here and there, but nothing special. Couple of nice vocals by Becca again and that’s it.
---------------------------------------
Nyquist – Singularity part 2
Disappointment number 3: yes! Again, remix to previously released track. This time I can say that it's not bad at all. But I know it sounds already; the first part was gr8 but why again??? This is a relaxed track, calm.
----------------------------------------
Simple Harmonic Motion - Aisha
Very good chill out track! Comfortable sounds and ethnic vocals! It always good to
end an album with chill out
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
Overall:
I expected more form this album. 1/3 of it is remixes. And with all the respect this is a disrespect by Aran to us. I'm against so much remixes in one album - a 1/3 of it! Imho I have the right to complain because I paid for this album. for new tracks and not for boring version of old ones. If he hadn’t enough tracks to release an album - he could w8.
Plz do not kill me for sayng this, yes, yes… who am I to say such thing to an artist I know…
The 2nd 1/3 is regular track and a good chill out track.
Anyway, this album worth every shekel of it, just because of the 3rd 1/3 which is unbelievable music.
8/10

I have three letters for this release:
WTF????????
WHO PUT DROP IN YOUR BRAIN???
As you can probably figure out by now, Im pretty disappointed. Ever since I first layed ears on this release, I'm asking myself what happened to FREq. Is this the same person who wrote "Short Life Again", "Return to the Masters", the "All Seasons" Remix, and last but not least the most excellent "Avatar" from the Labyrinth compilation?
Unfortunately yes, even though most of this record sounds as if a 15 year old teenager from Tel Aviv sat in the studio reminding Mr. Gallagher constantly "This too slow, need more sounds, make faster and more kiilllaaaaarghhhhhhhh!!!!" In other words, while FREq's typical fat sounds and tight production clearly shine through, most of these tracks (1-5) are a sorry attempt to cater to the Full-On crowd, Full-Gressive probably would be a fitting word . IMHO, they lack the depth and punch that is usually typical of Freq, and the sounds and synths, while being really awesome on their own, dont really move me at all. Superficial is the word, I guess. And the basslines, usually FREq's strength, get downright obnoxious, especially on track 5.
Track 6 is a whole other matter. Here FREq tries to jump on the Electro-house bandwagon, and it just doesnt work. This track is just really awkard and plain out wrong, D-Nox and Beckers would probably roll around in their graves if they were dead. But they are not, so there no need to try to copy them. Its just a track the world doesnt really need.
Now we get to the part of the album that I like. Track 7 is very euphoric and Euro-Trancey, but contrary to the track before it just works. Awesome synths and sounds, fat punching bassline this for sure will get any sun-drenched dancefloor going. Track 8 is a housey pleasant groover, but its also very plain and pale. Definitely not bad. Track 9 is a chill-out track, and its very good. FREq really builds some beautiful dreamy soundscapes with some nice twisted sounds.
OK, what I dont get is, how come a track like Avatar, IMHO the essence of Prog. PsyTrance, if an alien comes down and asks me "Show me progressive Psytrance"
I would show this track, and I heard it played at a million parties, only gets released as a mixed version on the Labyrinth Compilation, while these tracks are released on the Album? WHY WHY WHY???? I already said it before and I will say it again, FREq is always best when hes slow and grooving, and quite frankly I dont know anyone who prefers his faster stuff. Oh well, enough bitching, Im gonna go listen to his old stuff and drown in my geriatric nostalgia.

Maybe he just wanted to avoid making "Strange Attractors pt II" ?
Ofcourse I haven't kept up-to-date with everything he put out in the meantime, but you would indeed expect an artist to save his best versions for his album, wouldn't you?
Anyhow, I don't think it's àll bad, but this release needs a few more spins before I can give it a decent review... |
