1.Does anybody here work EXCLUSIVELY with freeware(sequencers,trackers,vst's.etc.)?Do you think you can get a PRO sound out of it?2.This question also involves the WAREZ subject:Do you prefer to be "good" and use freeware only?Or do you think that nowadays this is normal to start with a cracked software of your choise and then go and buy it (after you "tried" it)?

hmm, it's a bit of a double question: yes and no... or better: no and yes

no, I don't use freeware only and I think that it must be very VERY hard to get a good sound out of freeware only.

But yes, I do use freeware cause some freeware vst's just rock! Take blip, woosh, analog delay, superwave p8, muon tau, drumsynth (not a vst), swirler and others for instance. They make great sound/efx, some of which I wouldn't know how to make them with pro-vst's. But freeware only? too hardcore for me

i don't work with freeware only, but my answer will be "yes". you can get good results with it, no matter what you work with, your main isntrument is the brain, so with freeware maybe you limited, but hey this limits help your imaginiation, due to this boundaries you not lost in endless options you just going forward and know all the points you can do.

of course here comes the question why i have to work only with freeware when i can get warez, but i think with the time you will find your best tools and buy them.

here you can hear my song made with freeware only:

http://www.kortner-hasting.com/mp3/Prosect/Prosect_-_Recently_I_Discovered_Transistors_In_My_Head.mp3

i made this tune for some contest and due to rules i used very cheap vsti, some delay, reverb and phaser. hihats, claps, kick and all the fx made from importing .dll into .wav (yes as RAW PCM).

enjoy.           Without Deviation, Progress Is Not Possible.

vb-1 is freeware, but isn't it used by a lot of people (correct me if i'm wrong)...

buzzmachines is also freeware and is supposed to be very good....

i think the question is unfair

freeware does have its potential, take linux for example (or even apache and java).....

depends upon how it's used (imho)

of course, linux is free...any computer guy will tell u that....

and of course, the "Programming Language" Java is free....

whether u write a simple program to add 2 numbers (which is not of much use) or make a sexy game (which sells millions) depends on ur skill

Linux is freeware! Get Knoopix, if you want to have a pack. This is free.

Linux is free, you pay only for easy installation and service and that stuff, and that some people took it wrote a GUI and burned it with installer and a lot of progs (that no one ever use all) on 10 cds and 10 billion dvds. you pay for the cds and dvds.            Signature

Some of the best software is freeware, but the best sequencers are not. You can get great results with freeware, it's just a bit harder than with the stuff that costs loads of money.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
