Hello everyone how are you? I have been listening to goa and psy for about 5 years now, and finally decided to try to make some music myself.

I'm still completely ignorant to that so I would like to ask some help, beggining with software choices.

I would like to start with a free program, like Buzz or Psycle or I could buy Fruity Loops. I don't want to spend more than U$250 on EVERYTHING I need to make good quality trance.

Where should I start? As reference, I like Sesto Sento, Astrix, Alien Project, Zorba, GMS, Psycraft, CyberCartel and Yahel (yeah.. i like yahel!)

I would like make music using strong basslines, "infected mushroom" kicks and morning / very melow and melodic sounds together.

Thank you very much in Advance!

Boom!

Thanks for the honest reply Trip

For that type of music I want to make, how much would I need to spend? I don't want to get into hardware...

What will I need and how much does any of the tools cost?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Thanks for the tips SuperGlue!

So, I will start with FruityLoops + CUBASE SX = about $400 - then, when I can save more, I will buy a better soundcard (delta audiophile $300)

So with about $700 I will be able to start making some decent stuff? Considering I will put lots of time and my heart on it.

Where can I find tutorials + articles + books about music production? Specially psytrance.

Take care ahi!

No need to get Cubase on the start.
Get Fruity Loops. Start learning and when you're good enough (and got the money) you can get Cubase as well, and use them together.

Mike A, I have just downloaded fruity loops demo and will probably buy it. Do you reccomend samples CDs that are being sold at www.samplefusion.com? Right now I will only use the fruity with the samples that come in it, but later on...

SuperGlue, thanks a lot for all your help and advices ahi. I appreciate it!

1) I listen to psy all day long, so the best way for me will be to get ideas from other artists and adapt them to my mind.

2) I have a good friend that has been playing with fruity for 2 months now - I just called him and we will help each other!

3) Right now my plans are not to release anything, I already work a lot (I have a .com company so I work like 10 hours per day) so making music is not going to be treated like work, but as a way to free my mind from everyday stress.

4) HELL YEAH BUDDY! I NEED IT, THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOME!!!

And as reference, I will really stay away from the "dark side". LOL - I will listen to a lot of Entheogenic, Zorba, Astrix, Alien Project, Sesto Sento, Yahel, The Infinity Project, Antidote, Astral Projection, Shpongle, Exanimo... morning stuff all the way.

I will be around here a LOT. Hope to learn a lot and exchange tons of experiences with all of you here!

Take care ahi.

I have no idea. I never used FL nor those sample cd's.
But don't buy anything all at once. Learn FL, and see if you need to expand it at all. If yes, go and buy whatever you think you'll need after you got some experience.

i agree with mike. don't rush in to buying stuff you don't know how to use yet. learn Fruity and how it works, use it's own sound bank and THAN move on.

learning fruity for basic things is very easy, but it will take atleast a year for u to be confident that u got everything under control in your work procces.

u can start with mid quality soundcard and speakers and not waste $$$ on pro equpment while u dont know the real difference and dont know how to use it wise.

there are also alot of free trackers that could be very funny but they are not so innovative and easy to use like fruity..

just keep your mind clear and flow with your feelings
GOOD LUCK!           ***dread controls***

and another thing about samples

the standart fruity samples are fun in the beginng but after a while u understand that they are very limeted and not good quality enough to do some thing serious.

buying one sample cd after some time with the standart sounds will help u very much.

-just look for cd with mixed samples (like drums;synths;voices;etc...)

BTW, is there any site I can get free samples? Stuff like SciFi samples, or movie samples and such?

Take care!
