Squelch is a monophonic 'psytrance' squelch generator featuring

: two tuned oscillators with retrigger, sync and detune
: pre-filter 'drive' and post-filter 'teeth'
: a multimode limited limiter
: bitcrushy goodness
: two LFOs (pitch and cutoff, what more do you need? )
: primitive stereo mangling
: analog mode for phatness
: harmonic additives for the kids
: a seriously amateur fGUI

not a terribly long list of features, granted. and i haven't done any coding of
individual modules myself; they're all available from third-party developers or
native to SE. i did design and implement some sections (stereo imagery, analog mode and the limiter) from scratch.

what is hopefully unique, however, is the way they're stitched together. squelch
is designed to easily and quickly implement those all-too-popular acidic psytrance
squiggles. since the standard pitch-bent-saw-with-detune-and-HP-cutoff-modulation is
a little tired, there are lots of options for livening things up. i recommend
exploring the fixed harmonics, using the limiter for soundshaping, and fucking with
the stereo image.

here's a package containing squelch.dll, the full readme, and a folder of presets:

i hope you like it - please report any bugs or compatability issues in this thread!

Dunno if it's a bug or the bug is in my computer but I can't load presets in fl7. When I do, everything blocks and cpu hits (and maintains) 99%.

btw: looks sweet           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

I get the same thing in FL7 though usually only with SynthEdit VSTis. After the measure plays through though it usually settles back down.

With this, (which is amazing BTW Aeon, thanks a million) I chose a preset and FL7 locked up and distorted beyond belief. I had to close and reopen FL to sort the sound out. Then I realized that the initial patch is so tasty and versatile(using the Piano Roll)that I don't really care.

hi!
really a nice plugin! I've been searching for sth like this.. really sounds cool and does exactly what it's supposed to.
i've got the same problem with cubase 4.12, as soon as i touch another preset: silence, you've got to reload the plugin.

and there's still some room for improvement:

-the possibility to sync is great, but as long as it always starts at a different point (when hitting play in the sequencer) it's quite useless, because getting what you want only happens with luck.
if it always started at the same point and you add a knob for lfo-phase-shift, that would be incredible!
-how about sync to dotted notes or trioles?
-when using a pulse-wave: how about a knob for pulse-width?

but I have to say, it's a really good plugin that might make it into a lot of tracks.
and if the sync-problem is fixed I'd even pay some bucks for that little gem!

anyway, thanks for programming&sharing this!

greets, chilli

why wait? this on is quite easy to handle and funstuff to try without presets. go for it!

i played around a little more and one more wish:
would it be possible to raise the Maximum-LFO-Frequency? 20hz would already be cool, but imagine going over 100hz oder even 1khz.. a completely new range of fx could be done!

ahaaand (i won't stop ) a square wave for the lfo-shape!

thanks so much everyone - sorry about instability issues!

the preset-loading problem seems to stem from the way SynthEdit stores presets before the .se file is rendered as a VSTi. i'm going to try reloading the patchmem module and see if that helps. i'll try and upload another version this evening, hopefully.

The Bap, thanks, glad you found it useful!

SE's preferred background file format is bitmap... by all means please do a skin, and if you know how to create knobs and buttons then go for it - i can send you a .zip of the entire skin folder if you want.

thanks so much for such detailed feedback

- sync. this is a good idea, i will look at implementing a sync-reset button... lfo phase shift is probably do-able too. as for further note divisions, i'll have to experiment!
- knob for PW... yeah, this is something i toyed with. but throughout this project it's been a case of stripping back everything that's not needed, so i just stuck it as an LFO2 destination!
- as for maximum LFO frequency... what's tricky is that SynthEdit knobs only allow so much resolution (as far as i can tell - anyone know differently, please say!), and thus with a higher maximum it's much more difficult to dial in slower modulations. there are a few ways round this: either have one 'highspeed' and one 'lowspeed' LFO, or have them both switchable between high and low speed. the second would be ideal, i'll try and work on an implementation tonight.
- square wave for LFO... hah, i thought pulse would be ok

Elad, i will try to get another version up today but might not have time. either way don't use it in any critical projects
