free ftp domain?

Hi all,
I want to set up a ftp-server so I need some free-ftp-domain, i have server software but...
anyone has experiences with those?
there are quite a lot of these and i dont want to take the trial error road for this one...
help is appreciated |

You need to have a static IP, and your internet service have to free the port 24/25 to you make your FTP server.
Check your internet service if this ports are unblocked.

You can use a service like dyndns.org if you have dynamic IP.
Their free service works fine and they have software to auto update the IP when it changes and some routers even have built in ability to make the updates.
The default ports for FTP is ports 20 and 21, but you can set up the FTP server to use different ports if needed.

but on dyndns.org i think u need to post every 2 weeks something to obtain the free service, thats crap
btw, i'm on mac, ftp client is no prob, but free domains are...

Do you have dynamic or static IP?
Do you have a router, and if so does it have functionality for automatically updating any dynamic DNS services?
The client is available for mac and will update for you automatically, so unless you leave the sever machine off for two weeks you don't need to worry about the account expiring. And if you only have the server on on rare occasions just using your public IP would be sufficient one would think?
