Ahh... I did try to avoid bias ! well at least can we agree that visibility is valuable, regardless of whether there's a price tag on the music or not ?

Sure we can and the whole point with this debate is to raise the point that free legal releases should get equal credit as being of the same quality as releases on CD's (both having their share of good and bad releases). Otherwise we end up in a situation where very talented artists are rated as 2nd grade artists just because they have decided to give away their music. A situation already happening today. A example is that the majority of parties and festivals still live under the illusion that an artists with a CD releases is more interesting to book.
I do believe it is time for to face the music and get all this out in the open. We all have to compete with each other but it must be a fair competition.

I agree with damon.
Beat Agency, you can also post about other people's free releases that you think are good. I don't think that anyone will stop you from posting that stuff in the main ambient & chillout section. You know, if you care about this thing so much, you should start doing instead of talking.
You always bitch about something, but you almost never contribute something useful that can bring joy to other people and help other artists.
It just seems that you like to complain a lot or debate as you say, well at least here in this section.
Contribute something useful for a change.

I - for my part - learned to really appreciate the honest opinions of Beat Agency. He tells what he thinks in a not hurting way and with a clear aim. And that is gold.
BTW: I do not get paid by Beat Agency

well some dudes here always are so mighty high on their "moral agenda" forgetting to look into the mirror before they point fingers at others.
They are the real trolls simply because they cant wait too kick-start negative comments and fights.
I dare them to actually participate with something useful in this debate. I doubt they can.
And I dare them to show me one single line in what I've written that was offensive to anyone here.

Well, if you will go through this section of the forum you will see that I'm all about spreading and sharing music.
Regarding this thread, I just don't see why talk when you can do. As I said, post about those free releases you like.
Regarding starting fights and negative comments, well, I rarely see you saying something positive. I'm not fighting you mate, I'm just expressing my opinion just as you do. You are the one with all the assumptions regarding people here that you don't even know.
It just looks like you like to "debate" a lot that's all.

That's not all you do in a forum.
I did understand your point, it's not that complicated.
You constantly ignore the thing that I'm trying to understand. What I'm trying to understand is why are you not posting about some free releases if you care so much.
Show the people your point: that there is a lot of good free albums out there and that it doesn't matter if it's on CD or not, or if it's for sale or not. If it's good it's good. And therefore free releases should get more attention here.

If you care to read my points, without your judgmental glasses on, that's exactly what I have said. So why being a nag when you agree with me?
Why don't you show me all the people who care about free releases in this section of the forum (I do post about free releases...My own). Why don't they as an example comment on Kukan's releases? He does amazing music yet no one seem to care much here. Instead the CD releases get's tons of comments
If there had not been a debate in Sovning Sind's post I doubt many would have commented there too.
Just examples highlighting a point I raised in this debate.
Why is it such a taboo here (for some of you) to raise a debate about if people are biased toward CD released contra free releases? Is it because there is some truth here? www.beatagency.dk |
