ok need to start of with config of my comp

P4
512mb Ram
80gb hard drive
running on XP

and am working on Nuendo2

This is my problem -

I am working on a new track now and am in the middle of making Kick, bassline and percs. and every time i press play to listen what it sounds like, it just makes this almightly bang sound and that thats it! Silencio!!!! Looked at cpu usage and its gone to 100%!!! Thats strange no?

vsts and plugins i'm using are battery2, audiorealism, quadrafuzz, req4, sc compresison(been a revelation for me since i finally understood colin's post! heheh...) and 1 vanguard, thats it. and the damn thing keeps crashing!

Does anyone know why this is happening or can someone please tell me what i can do improve the performance of my comp?

Thanks!

Sounds weird, what soundcard are you using? Some soundcards do that if you clip the really bad, it might be worth turning down all your levels before you press play. If that doesn't work, try increasing our buffer size - just to eliminate that case as well.

Hope that works...

Oh, another thing i forgot to mention is, it problematic only on the kick and bassline.
if i play the percs and bassline with the 1 lead, tis fine, its just when the kick comes in.
when i turn the vol down, it works and when i turn it back up again, Buff! Gone! have to restart the comp again, very annoying man.

Sound card am using is the normal soundblaster series.

how much should i increase the buffer size?           Rather than feeling that you're about to have the rug pulled from under you, let me teach you how to dance on a flying carpet

try to work with 2048 buffer size.
do you have any vst on your kick ch ? if you have.. remove all the vst's from your kick and then try, cuz it maybe a bug with the vst.

Hmmm, sounds like feedback on the kick or bass chanel. Turn all Aux Sends and inserts off, turn up the kick volume a bit (not too much) and then start turning things back on one at a time to find what causes the problem. My guess is that you have connected something wrong on your compressor.

It's hard to tell without actually seeing it but ut might be worth a try.

If I got it right, I think this might be the case:

Consumer cards like this one have big problems with latency since they don´t have good ASIO drivers.

For these cards, there is a free driver you can download called ASIO4ALL. you can download it at http://www.asio4all.com/

After you installed it, in Nuendo choose ASIO4ALL as your driver, and this should definetelly improve your system. You can also control buffer size under the ASIO4All control panel.

I work with my laptop with a firewire sound card and when I´m on the move I use the ASIO4ALL driver with the onboard soundcard and latency works fine (much better than with the normal driver).

Hope this helps

Good luck
