So in an interview with Headroom (http://www.psymedia.co.za/headroom-from-nano-records-exclusive-interview/), his answer to a question about his approach to writing a track, he says:
I will often start off with the groove section, that is, kick, bass and percussion. As Psytrance is heavily focused on groove, this must always be on the money. Following that I start playing around with acid sounds and synth stabs, which I sequence in such a way that they form what some call a ‘grid’. This is the acid foundation of most of my tracks. These rhythmic grids need to complement the groove you are working with and can formulate melodies too, depending on the keys of acid and synth lines you implement. I also try work out what my finale will be as I will aim to sequence the tune towards this. This is important for flow. It’s finished when nothing bothers me anymore. That means musicality, mix, sequencing, flow and crowd response all have to be bang on. The dance floor is the final test!
I think I have an idea of what he means when says forming a grid but how does everyone else approach this? Would you sequence each stab or acid hit on a track or do it all through a sampler or drum machine?

thats an interesting concept, i do like dickster and tristan's grids i kinda get lost when i try to do it, i spend too much time finding the right place and the right sound and it gets me frustrated, sometimes the bars and numbers make u loose creativity

I think this approach leads to boring, stale, re-hashed music.
I like to start at the start and let the track evolve. It has to tell a story you need to let it flow, not force it into boxes, or grids.
Freeform is the key not formula.

he talkin about the rhythmic groove u get in psy - When the stabs talk to eachother thru the spaces between them..
i like to play with either impulse or the drum rack in ableton 4 the "grid groove" - synth, bounce then a drag n drop job, diff space between the notes is what makes it...
you dont tend to get the "grid groove in your style of psycore, mainly fullon u get stabs giving a question and answer conversation between the note hits.........

hes just mention that groove is what makes it,and that he forms a grid for the stab synth hit space swings u get when the tune gets going, cant explain what i mean..
it got nuthing to do with letting tune fold out or boring basics..
he means the Grid as in a bunch of synth hitz talking to compliment a groove - not whole track arrangement grid

This is my Grid as it stands...could and will be better just a basic example of a fuk about

yeh youv got it "That kind of Grid" only really pulled off in this genre ..,, hard aint it when try listen and place them..
up to u how u go about it,, either start dry and till shes wet or tease her with combinations....i think synth quality is important and key choices..i think for me The drum rack way is very good for makin "Grids" quickly and efficiently..
synth a sound freeze drag to audio then drag straight into impulse or drum rack DONE!
i kno exacly what u mean about the bars and numbers start to fuk wiv ya eyes..i think probly the source "gettin it right the first time round will lead to a straight finished bounce that u will defo use rather than spend hours placing to get that complemented effect..thats one was i guess

No, I totally understand what was meant by grid. I just don't think that formula is a good thing for psychedelic music.
I have found the stuff that interests me is the more experimental stuff that breaks free of these type of musical formulas.
There are other ways to form a groove
