in one of the interviews i read with amon tobin, he mentioned he took a percussion line,
put it through a formant fillter, wich acourding to him has the ability to creat chords, and out of that he created a bassline...
so...what is a formant fillter? hows does it work? and are there any pluggins u know that
are formant filters? |

I know the concept "formant" from voice designers like "voice machine", voice designer & etc...
never used it on percussions tho..
on voice it create those "robot" effects.

hi orik .formant filters simulate the vocal effect which means that they have peaks at certain freqs that reassemble the human voice .it is possible to create them by using 2 simple filters sometimes 4 to get vocals sounds e.g. aa o ou sounds. you can use them on percussion and other samples using battery 2 which can create really nice efx sweeping thru thoes frequencies with an lfo ,velocity or automation .I think they still need to work on those filters cos there quality is not that good.have fun |
