FOrest trance, to me, is lush, almost 'wet' sounding trance, full of strange noises. Often it has a similar bassline to what people call 'dark'. What really distinguishes Forest trance to me, is the complete bonkers-ness of it! Its not really 'riffy' (like, a noticable riff that its built upon), and often has freaky changes, new basslines thrown in, sometimes even new kick drums. TONS of different sounds layered over and within one another create an atmosphere that I can only describe as 'foresty'... Check out the artists that mk47 mentioned, and I think you'll understand what I mean.

Wizack Twizack isn't really forest, but has been described as 'foresty'. Though, Id put his work in with such artists as Dark Nebula and the like.           .

Forget about these names and labels, focus on the music.

I didn't mean to be rude, sorry.

I did a review for the CCL album, some people called it "forest", but I can't really see it:

What I was saying is that this is not well defined IMHO.

Also sorry from my side, was in a bad mood before..next time I will wait a few minutes before posting...result was inconstructive.. of cause you are right, in a way, it just seemed like a sweeping comment to me at the time

so peace

I think mudpeople and MK did nice job trying to explain and in the end forest is just a name for a vibe one gets from this murky and shroomy sound.
The most common denominator everyone can propably agree on is that Derango is a good example of "foresty psy".
Suomi is just Suomi, little room for error there..

There is no one to stop u from playing any music in the forest - so any psytrance music you like and play in the forest can be christened FOREST!!!

Listen to Goa Gil DJ sets & his VAs.... all those artists he plays can be called FOREST IMO.

Other than that Naked Tourist took me to the forest on his DJ sets twice & also GOW did it for me once.

Also i would pull in Psychoz into this category.           We were born naked & grow up to become wicked.

hehe thanx , gi'iwa does rock!

i think in my opinion forest music is stuff that sound extra good if played in the forest .

i reckon alot of dennish night time music is great for that , morning i stick with gi'iwa , exogenic , fairy dragon and 6dimension sounds

suomi is finish music (from finland)
in finland the term most peaple refer to as underground psytrance is (?) "spugedelic" wich is something like alcodelic
