Forced Production vs. Natural Production!

I'm upset!
I always wanted to produce happy uplifting trance.. melodic, morning.
But what I get from my "natural" production flow, is dark forest psychedelic stuff 
Which I don't like!
What about you?
Do you force anything?
In order to achieve a certain type of music..
Are you producing the type sound that you want and like?
Or you just accept what naturally comes out?

well.. in the beginning i think none actually have a clue on what they are doing. Later on when u learn serten trix and to build melodies etc u might see things from another perspective and thereby build your tracks in another way, the way u always wanted, not just random noises and fx's on a bassline. Years will pass and u will learn how to make your stuff the way u want it. If not, learn how to paint or whatever instead.

I'm talking about CLEAN professional production!
What I mean by "natural" is what you can do in music, without THINKING too much.
When you pick up a sound here and there, tweak a patch, get a kick and pull it all together.
Then start evolving to a complete track.
In my case, when it comes to happy day sounds I always get overwhealmed by technic.

Yes. I know it takes years to get your own "formula".
Maybe knowledge and pratice able us to make exactly what we want.. and not just what we can.

My music was complete shit and made on shit gear when I first started, it took years until I began making things I felt comfortable with, and every time I make a track i think what I made before was shit... it's trial and error, time and gear and a huge learning journey

Im in the same place man. I started production wanted to do fullon morning. and right now im ending up trying to do kind of furious style ( Im gonna go ahead an call it high tech.). but I guess just time will tell. Like wizack said, im just learning now. and most of the time I dont know what im doing. so I cant go ahead and paint my house red. if right now im just learning what type of paintbrushes are, and what they can do..
so Im gonna keep painting, and maybe one day Ill have the power to paint a multicolor house...like I said just time will tell.

Very familiar problem here.
When I just play melodies and stuff with synths, it's always dreamy, semi-classic, downbeat music.
But making Forest or other Dark Psy is something totally different, as now I'm really not playing melodies and stuff, but more experimenting with sounds and fiddling around, which seems to activate other parts in my brain which then block my creative flow:-(

Yeah I think everyone has this at some stage or another, certainly me too.
Myself, I'm at a stage right now where I would call myself 'competent' while I still have a lot to learn. What comes out if I just sit and jam is usually more melodic and uplifting than what I intended. But I'm starting to embrace it and consider that maybe its my style, or at least the stuff I do best - rather than forcing something else.
Making psy is 90% engineering anyway so I feel I would do myself a disservice by ignoring the stuff that actually comes from inside... |

I want to make dark psy, but generally my sound are more of the "old school" vibe, and my friend who wants to make classic psy, dancefloor, makes lots of crazy dark FX instead. So we make some psy/dark with oldschool vibe, and that's cool =) |
