Because the OS is burned on the EPROM chip I think.
at least that's what they told me in music shop...

in case you don't know:
eprom= Eraseable Programmable ROM.
so you can write in it.
why then there's OS updates all the time ?
(in Clavia site too)
which Nord you have ?

listen sorry if i confused u, but from nord 3 it is soft updateable (there's new update for nord3 os now too).
generally - u can write on the eprom (jumpers/special plug),
but particularly on nord2's - it's not a supported issue, but maybe there's some hack to update the nord2 upto nord3. ...
there must be some NordLead hackers page.

haven't searched it though.

Bilbo, EPROM cannot be erased and rewrited without a spacial device called "Burner" (Not a CD burner) which expose the chip to Ultra-Violate Waves and then rewrite it.
meaning - you CANT write on the EPROM without first taking the chip out of the NL2 and mounting it on a burner.

Unlike Flash-Memory (or EEPROM - Electrically EPROM), which can be rewrited sr8 from the mobo. (or any other host)

there're cards on which the eeprom can be updated via rejumpering (this sets the chip into writeable mode,so the burner is always on the card). then you connect via some communication device the stream of data, update the chip, and rejumper the rom into Read-Only mode again.

and of course what you said is true too.
