Hi~guy I love trance so much
i've only listened to trance never created one before
now i feel like i want to create some
so... what equipment do i need at least?
i just bought axiom 61 midi keyboard(cause i like the fact that it had drum pad), but about to return it cause it goes off and on constantly...(i heard i can create music just with midi keyboard alone and program.)
So i'm willing to get keyboard you guys suggest.
I really don't know anything about equipments, also don't even knokw what to ask lol
So pls tell me what i need at least(keyboard must?), and how you guys started at first when you had no clue on equipment or so..

thank you guys~

You need a sequencer/DAW application. (DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation). There are quite a few choices: Reason, Ableton Live, Fruity Loops, Cubase, Sonar, Logic, Reaper, Orion, Project 5 etc

Most released artists use one of the following: Cubase, Logic, Ableton Live, Fruity Loops, Sonar. (Probably in that order of popularity but I'm not entirely sure). But you can easily start with a less expensive (and easier to learn) application like Reason or Fruity Loops. Reason 4 a and Fruity can be integrated in the other sequencers if and when you feel you need to expand your tools.

Logic is for Mac only. Cubase, Live and Reason are for Macs and PCs. Sonar is for PC only. Fruity Loops is also only PC (I think).

The next thing you need is a computer (duh ), some input device (A Keyboard is indeed very nice although some seem to manage with only a mouse), and speakers. (As soon as you get serious, you need some proper studio monitors but you can start off with PC or HiFi speakers to see if this music creation thing is really for you).

Most people will agree that the included software instruments and effects in most DAWs are just a starting point. You can find many free (and commercial) instruments and effects at http://www.kvraudio.com

Take your time to read all the "Mother Off..." threads and all the other topics that are sticky at the top of the forum. That should give you all the basics of trance production. Also make good use of the search function of this forum. You will find allot of useful info.

Good luck on your quest and have fun!

I have the same problem with my Axiom and it rarely gets used because of it. The screen flashes in and out and every once in awhile the computer will have to re-setup the hardware. Anybody happen to know what the deal is? Might the problem stop with a full blown adapter instead of USB power?

Axiom is all what u need to create music.. I am so disappointed with your reports, I think Axiom 49 is great controller.. Dont know about that 61.. does 49 version also has same problems?

If I was on your place I would return it to the seller and ask for another or a money back.. Immediately..

In general.. You need a keyboard with MIDI I/O and a decent soundcard..

Other is all up to software, u need DAW and plugins for it(VSTi-Virtual Studio Technology instruments) and u got yourself your virtual studio..

Like undertow said, instruments that come with your DAW are not much(personaly first thing I do after installing DAW is deleting native instruments)..

Than when u have equipment u need knowledge and yes you can get bits and pieces in "mother of.." threads but I recommend reading some books on the topic and watch some video tutorials for quick start..

Could well be. Not all USB ports give enough power.

I dont really know whats your problem with daw's native plugs guys, but I think you should have a deeper look at those that are coming with logic           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

no not cracked..original education version..bought it right after release..ok..you cannot realy compare those synths with a predator, albino or whatever..but you can get very nice results out of them and they sound very nice to me..

actualy right know i use cubase just as audio editor.. i switched to live..i think its more fun,but thats just my taste..i like it to set the tracks right down and down in session view so i could just switch between all of them in one big session one day..and i get things done faster in live..thats the main point for me..

but well.. i never used the abe live synths yet..didn`t buy them..just the sequencer even as edu version and i think there are only one or two inside..never tried or had a search..

cheers           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

Also Sonar 7 comes with Rapture and Z3ta+ which are excellent soft synth! (And a few other useful tools).

That is enough to get started. Just be very careful to not to damage your hearing working with headphones. People tend to turn headphones up too loud to try and get the kind of impact that real bass from speakers gives. Damaging your ears is not a good way to start.

I don't know any musical theory so I would say that it isn't absolutely necessary. But I'm sure it helps those that do know their Do Re Mi's...

For the rest, just start messing with Reason and see what comes out of it. When you start feeling limited because of lack of knowledge or whatever, you will know which questions to ask.
