This is a valid criticism. You can't take the best of one new style (embodied by Perfect Stranger) and compare it to the worst of another style (180 BPM machine gun bass line darkpsy amateur hour).
In any case, Perfect Stranger falls between psytrance and techno... techno purists call it psytrance and psytrance purists call it techno! The truth is somewhere in between... but unlike Extrawelt and Minilogue you aren't likely to find as many techno DJs spinning Perfect Stranger; his vibe is way more on the trancey side of the new techno style. And we love him for it.
Anyway, that is a fantastic moment to capture on video

Hmm? AFAIK, Perfect Stranger is playing TECHNO in that video. And, yes, techno is alive and kicking, doing great really.
it was a poor choice of words from my side, i was refering to the parties, and the culture it self ...

just saw the video, i've seen a crowd respond like that very few times in the past years... altho it does happen every now and then.
thing is with this minimal tech whatever music is that at least for me a whole set tends to be too boring until there are explosions like is portrayed here, i mean of course there are exceptions (yuli being one of them), but for the most (and it was REALLY evident at boom), i get really bored from this music, all clicks and no groove at all...

does this definition of karahana imply, that artists like the one quoted next are not doing good karahana:
Also, if party promoters could do it more like it was when I discovered trance parties : not putting the dj in front of the crowd, like a TV entertainer, but be "a little" more hidden to play his music without having to behave a certain way... That would be good for me.

honestly, people who know sonkite personally might say better , but does he look happy to you in that video? hm, time change indeed. but he is one of the greatest artists ever though although the video is not my taste.

i think what he is playing is very psychedelic & very powerful & would throw the crowds into ecstatic states, as he did in the video!

This is a video i shot 4 years ago at the first Moksha sunset to sunset festival which turned out to be one of the best events in Israel in recent years
Read the comment made by Nigel, the DJ who created the track played by Simon Posford Back in '94.

remember the group dynamics in the early days of goa? it always looked like a flower - in the middle of the flower were the freaks having the greatest karahana, the freaks with the most physical power ( jumping, dancing and freaking out). they were surrounded by another circle of dancing freaks with less karahana going on. and so there were a few energy circles going from the inside of the flower to the periphery. the djs were mostly in the periphery. the karahana was happening in a circle in the middle, not in front of the dj, not everyone with his face towards the dj...
people who were just passing around and walking and not having karahana were always in the periphery. nobody would ever let them invade the inner circle. nowadays everything is much more defocused. those people who are not having karahana are just walking inside, inbetween , asking stupid questions about " where do you get so much energy and can you tell me where i can buy some"? no inner circle.
so people concentrate in front of the dj where it is supposed the be less crowd ( 1. because normal people take care for their ears, and 2. because there are the whole cameras and foto shooters and no sane tripping person likes those but the fashi's do). and the karahana happens there, right in front of the dj. actually i would find it extreme if i were on his place. dont know why such crowds are thought to be the greatest crowd possible.
also karahana can happen inside of your head quite real. never liked this obligation to stop my astral journey just in order to lift my head with all others or to acknowledge djs while they change.
last great karahana where i have been - forgotten ritual. gush, it is three years. karahana is so great if it is real. my god how i miss it.
p.s. who was that guy, this karahana professionalist who used to jump on the decks while the strongest karahana was happening ) . no there is karahana for the dj, karahana for the " crowds of the dj" and karahana for the soul. i prefer the third.
