Any of you ever use a guitar to MIDI device? If so, which is your favorite and why?
I'm really worried about latency when recording.

I don't want a MIDI guitar. I want to play my guitar and have it be converted to MIDI. Seems easier to write leads that way, I can play guitar a lot better than piano.
Besides I love sinning. Don't you? |

Try using a MIDI pickup -> you can use any guitar that way. Some are better than others, but I really suspect they aren't "perfect", and don't know how sensitive / accurate a pitch bend will be.
Never tried a guitar with a MIDI pickup incorporated, due to the price and inavailability to me. But there are some top end guitars with MIDI that have good reviews (and do cost a big buck). I've heard a lot of bad reviews about MIDI guitars and pickups, and most people only say good about the Roland ones, but this is third hand experience coming from the Internet, so it's worth what it's worth.
Also, a guitar allows you to be very expressive, and you must already play one to want this - but don't forget a piano let's you do more things than a guitar, as it's a more versatile instrument, exceptionally giving you more expressiveness. You'll gain a lot more if you learn the piano.
But man it should be awesome to control your favorite synth with an axe

as a guitar player i'm not sure i agree with this. with my (non midi) guitar i come up with totally different melodies than with my midi keyboard. what's easy with the guitar is often (at least for a novice like me) totally unplayable with the keyboard. |

Thanks for the replies guys.
Checked out a plugin for mac (widi audio to midi) but not to happy with it and it costs $60 - 80.
looking into the sonnus g2m costs $100 but its hardware so feel a little more comfortable. Any one use it?
I should learn keys but already spent the time learning guitar so might as well use it |

i am interested in something similar so i checked out the demos for the g2m.,
looks very cool and its even sensitive to velocity
but also very touchy about notes - only monophonic and the notes cant bleed into eatch other.. |
